So I am trying to build an uber cheap rig for my bro using old parts. I go in to BB to see if I can snag some DDR400 ram for a half decent price.

I ask the kid in computers, "Do you still have DDR400 RAM?"

Him: Yea it's right here.. lemme show you... *Takes me to the external Hard Drives and points to them*

Me: Um.... RAM... Memory... not hard drives....

Him: Huh?

Me: You know, like 512 MB, 1GB...

Him: Oh.. like flash drives, yea they are right here *points to next aisle*

Me: um...

Him: please talk to my supervisor.. he will know what you are talking about.

This was the Torrance, CA store.

Wow... Just... wow.

In my defense, I was literally already in the BB parking lot... I would not normally attempt to buy RAM from them.

My mom does not know how to make a new folder in OSX........

........ SHE knows the difference between RAM and a HD.

He was probably shocked that anyone would come to Best Buy for RAM ;)

Ya, their sales force isn't always the smartest. However they are great at selling overpriced service plans and cables.

Why even attempt to ask? Run through the store yourself.

You should just order that anyway. If BB had it, you can be sure it would be a rip-off anyway.

I almost didn't read this, but I saw "MUST READ", so I did.

Good thing, too, because right after reading it, some guy with a gun came up to me and quizzed me on it and told me he'd shoot me if I got a question wrong.

Must read, indeed.

Do you not realize that when they hire these people all they do is have them take a personality test? It doesn't matter if you know jack shit about technology or not. They don't care if you have to have mommy tie your shoes for you, they just want you to sell extremely overpriced products.

You know what, eff you all.

#1 You are too demanding in the stories you want to hear. You have seen too many $100 mil movies.

#2 I don't care WHAT the hiring criteria is, a comp dept employee should know HD from RAM.

your thread sucks because your title is very misleading.

Maybe he was just filling in for Chuck who was out in the parking lot trying to keep someone from blowing up his geek mobile. ;)

That's your issue right there...you expect someone working at BB to know absolutely ANYTHING about the products they sell. I go into BB and Circuit City and all those types of stores and expect everyone works there is just a hair above mentally disabled.

Meh, mine's better.

I told my uncle to pick up some extra ram for his computer, to give it a little boost. He comes back with a new hard drive. Apparently neither of them knew what ram was. =/

The reason is simple: they reject applications from people who know anything about it, deeming them "overqualified". At least, that's what they did to me.

QFT. Even when I was hired as a computer sales rep in Staples during my HS years, they was no freakin' training about the computers.

I made $7.50 an hour just reading what the charts were already saying next to the PCs, and these dumb customers look at you like you're some sort of a tech god.

We should have a generalized oldsmoboat's law that applies to more than just comedic threads.

The younger guys dont build PC's like we used to. The manufacturers have got it so cheap its next to impossible to build a good rig for less than a comparable Dell.

Back in late 90s you could build a sweet rig that you couldn't buy anywhere, and for less than the avg retailer.

Like...when a title employs hyperbole, the OP doesn't deliver?
