Input Lag Guidance

As much as I love my 27" display, it does not go without faults. I can feel the infamous input lag like many others. I don't know exactly how bad this it is, but it is definitely there.

After much research and testing, I decided to experiment. First of all, 16:10 runs much quicker on my display than 16:9. For example, 1280x800 > 1280x720. I am not sure as to why this is. Another thing to take note of is VGA vs DVI. I notice no difference between the two inputs. If anything, the DVI may be slightly faster. Please also note that having a high end mouse does help! At the time of my LCD purchase, I was using the wireless Logitech MX1000 which was basically unuseable. I then bought a Razer Copperhead. As I expected, it was much less noticeable. I think it has to do with the 1000hz polling rate and the 2000dpi.

This really became apparent to me when I purchased an RCA 52" WD HDTV hooked up via DVI. It has that instant response that I miss in FPS games. I'd like to take the time to make some room on the AT forums for suggestions regarding input lag and LCD owners.

I'll start with some questions,

Does anyone think having a DVI Monster cable would help this input response time at all?

At what size display (eg: 19" 21" 23" 24" etc) does input lag seem to be eliminated?

If us LCD owners were to upgrade performance for input lag, what monitor is recommended?

Thanks for your time,
Sean

1. don't buy anything that is made by monster it's overpriced to the extreme
2. it doesn't matter how big the monitor is as long as it's based on a good panel we aren't talking about response time but a quality panel.
3. you shouldn't have input lag I have a 2005FPW. I came from CRT at the time i was very big into online/lan competion in counter-strike 1.6 I honestly couldn't tell of any input lag the thing I did notice was that cs 1.6 didn't support true widescreen so it's basically a zoomed picture and that there is motion blur when moving fast on your sides.

I'm using an Intellimouse Explorer + 2005fpw, coming from a CRT, I didn't notice any input lag, in fact I like my LCD over my CRT.

I also like my 2005FPW over my CRT it's really a nice high quality monitor specially for the price. the only thing that is annoying is that not every game supports widescreen than some of them that say they do really don't like cs 1.6 you actually see less by setting it on widescreen. using the 2005FPW with HL2 was just SWEET! compared to my CRT no comparision

Keep in mind I have a 27" television, and not a standard PC monitor. TV's with DVI are apparently different.

The problem isnt with the size its with the display. TV's simply do not have the response times of PC Monitors. For instance, the Dell 30 Inch Cinema display is pretty good for gaming and 30 inches, albeit damn expensive, and hard to run 2560x1600 Resolution on any video card.

Any good LCD monitors do not have input lag at all. It may have ghosting if it has a bad grey-grey response time, but there will be no input lag. I suggest buying an LCD meant for a computer (plus games arent always compatible with WS resolutions) There is a great LCD buying guide in the Video forum and it talks about displays for everythign from workstations, to gaming to movie watching and everything.
