Why would you worry about what losers think?
It might be time for some therapy. Maybe something along the lines of self confidence.

Cause it ain't just anybody. We have a huge family on both sides that are very tight nit. My grandfather and her grandfather were best friends etc.

People like this are users. They will never straighten their life out until everyone cuts them off and they learn they can't get over on everyone.

When my friend Jack first got married he had his friend Tom move in with them. The idea was Tom had a good paying steady job and could contribute to them affording a nicer home than they could without him. That went on for about 3 years. During that time Jack had about 12 jobs, only keeping each one long enough to pay for whatever bill was currently due. Jack's wife told Tom one day that it was best for her family if he would leave, that as long as Tom was around , bringing in steady money that her husband could fall back onto that he would never work to stand on his own. Tom left and for about 2 years after that Jack and his family had tons of problems, kicked out of homes, etc. Now though it has been about 10 years and Jack has a nice home, family and business. He never would have done that if Tom didn't leave.

I would give him food or shelter if he needed it, but nothing more.

I don;t know what bushhogging is but that sounds awesome.
I have way too many hours on one of these:

Well, what did your father in law say when you explained yourself?

Ya he started in on how he just needed to be "helped out" but then regressed into him being not responsible etc. I think he is getting a lot of his thoughts from the mother in law who is the " my baby just needs some help" type

I shudder to think of what could happen if he gets hold of your stuff and goes running around parking lots with it. Stinks that you're in this position, but stand your ground. The fact that you know he's not trained on the machinery probably makes you liable if you lend it to him. Grats on picking a wife with guts )

Yes, and be prepared for the guilt trips. When something bad happens to the BIL, the MIL will be saying that "he just can't catch a break" and that "no one would help the poor baby." She'll also tell other relatives how "selfish" you were and that BIL had a "thriving business" that you ruined.

Oh god, it would do no good but I'd just love to go postal on her. Her "baby" needs to Man TFU. No more help from anybody.
So hey OP, can I borrow your stuff?

Sad but true; these types of people have worked getting pity out of others down to a science. They prey on people that are generally nice to others and try to manipulate them into manipulating other people to help them.

Already expecting this. How he had thousands of dollars lined up that he was unable to do because I'm an a$$.

It doesn't even matter what your wife thinks. You are 100% in the right here.

It's nice to have the wife in agreement though. OP is 100% in the right here and is also very smart to not have let the jackoff BIL break his expensive business equipment.

Tell him to put a plow on his own truck.... Also note that truck rhymes with shmuck.

In fact help him out. Go get some rusty pos plow from craigslist and weld it to his truck while he's sleeping. Once you start "helping" him like this, he may just stop asking.

Ask your FIL to sign a document that assigns all liability for potential damages done to or by your equipment. When he refuses, say "STFU."

Not a lawyer, but I doubt such a document would actually hold up in court if you got sued. Tell your FIL that if he is stupid enough to accept your terms.

Sounds like he'd sign right up.
