Just got an email, it's going to be 5.05.

Meh....not bad but not good. I'll setup a transfer out for Monday.

If you don't have a Wamu near you, what's the best way to deposit a check?

Emigrant Direct is still at 5.05, but their cd is down to 4.55, so I guess I should expect the savings to drop soon too.

PayPal's at 5.21% interest right now, only have $20 there, though.

YUP Wamu is one of the best one.
Even though ED is at 5.05%, the delay in transfering money to my check makes it worth less the Wamu 5%.
My checking is with Wamu and all my bills are linked to it.
Transaction between savings and checkings are instantneous so its much better.
I keep the absolute minimum in checking until I pay bills.
Heck my checking has .95 cents in it right now.
But Wamu do charges you $10 if you make too many transactions between the 2 accounts.
(I think I had close to 20 transactions between the 2 accounts in that month)

WAMU is 5.00%
FNBO is going to 5.05% effective September 29.

The latter is the best one I'm aware of, with no minimum balance requirement or fees.

The BofA rate I posted above was a signup for a Maximizer account through a link I found at FatWallet. It's now at 5.34, but it's a tiered rate... that one is for 50K plus...

I'm thinking the same. But I'm going to wait a month or so and see if others drop their rates too. Not worth the hassle if they drop to 4.5% or less.

because of FDIC regulation D you get whacked with a fee is you make more than 6 withdrawals per month

I've tried many different online HYS accounts, and etrade is the best, IMO. I suppose there might be slight advantages in interface from some of the others, but the integration with brokerage accounts and the instant transfers between them make it hugely convenient, and the rate is one of the best around. they also do very quick transfers in and out of the account compared to some other banks.

I have been with ING for five years now, but recently moved most of my liquid cash over to E Trade Bank online at 5.05%. The interface at E-Trade sucks compared to ING, but the transfers are fast and the rates are significantly higher. Also, countrywide bank is offering high rates on savings and CD's at 5.5% for 10k balance online accounts and 5.65% for 10k balance 1 year CD's. They are having issues due to the mortgage problems but are FDIC insured.

I wouldn't really call a CD an investment, just a slightly higher than inflation savings mechanism.

I also use etrade and find it's ability to perform a quick money transfer just as easy or easier than other banksites. And unlike other banks, their rate hasn't dropped, still 5.05%

BofA has short term CD's (4-month) @ 5.05-5.35%

Not a bad option if you don't want to tie up your money for too long, yet also believe that rates will be dropping in the coming months

Didn't realize Wamu had an online savings. Since I have 2 free checkings with them already, I just opened @ 5.00% with them and linked to one of my checkings. I did verify via phone that you need to have a $300 daily balance regardless, to waive the $4 monthly maintenance charge, despite what they say about the linking to an existing checking. Just a heads up.

They may similarly drop their rates, but at least it's more convenient for me now. The checking<->savings transfers takes only 24 hours as opposed to a few days at HSBC (plus their security was a bit over the top).
