this thing is a station wagon on 20s. without the 20s you'd be hard-pressed to call it anything other than a station wagon.

Sucks that station wagon is a bad word in America, while people flock to fuddy duddy SUVs and minivans.

minivan is a bad word which is why people buy these things that cost more, get worse mileage, and have less space inside

How does the cargo room of the Murano and FX45 compare to a Pilot and Highlander?

Seems like you can fit less in since it's so volumptuous outside and not as boxy as the Pilot is.

Cargo Capacity (rear seats up/folded down)

FX45: 27.4 / 64.5
Highlander: 38.5 / 81
Pilot: 48.7 / 90

Wow quite a noticeable difference between the FX45 and Pilot.

But can the FX45 seat 7?

:D

Americans seem to like Minivans more than wagons though.. somehow...

Now this is a farking AWESOME feature:

"One of the coolest features is the "intelligent key" fob which unlocks the door when you touch the door handles, and then starts the engine without ever inserting the key into the ignition (as long as the fob is inside the car). All we can say is that it worked flawlessly. Just don't leave it inside the car (in which case the car will beep at you disapprovingly)."

well minivans make a lot of sense. they really don't cost anymore than a decent family sedan, don't get much worse mileage, and have a ton more room than any station wagon ever made.

I wonder if the Murano will be significantly cheaper than the FX45 ?

I like it BTW, but who has $44K for a new SUV. It looks way better than the Aztek/Rendezvous IMHO.

I finally saw one parked and took a good look at it.

From the front, it looks like the Cheshire cat from Alice in Wonderland. Ugleee!!

Maybe I wouldn't get so annoyed with these types of cars if they didn't try to pretend they were SUV's.

Being a sporty on-road SUV, the FX has no underbody skid plates intended for off-road use, according to Infiniti, but it does have underbody airflow plates

I mean, stop pretending these things will ever go off road.

Um, Nissan/Infiniti doesn't make claims that this is an off-roading machine. Hell, did you even read the quote that you just posted? :D LOL:p Infiniti markets the FX45 as an AWD sports wagon/crossover.

So why do you keep calling it a SUV?

I said SUV, not off-roading machine. SUV does not have to equal off-roader. SUV stands for Sport Utility Vehicle. The Infiniti has more "sport" than 99% of the other SUVs on the market and it has plenty of "utility." A Honda Pilot is an SUV, a Highlander is an SUV...but I wouldn't take either one off-road. Same goes for the FX45.

A BMW X5 is no where close to be an off-roader. A VW Touareg OTOH is.

I guess I'm outdated or something when I consider SUV meaning off road capabilites. Maybe the definition has changed.

With the release of the RX300 in '99, everything changed concerning the definition of SUV.

Okay, I can accept that. Hopefully the marketing of these vehicles will stop showing them climbing over boulders and whatnot.

I was reading somewhere that only like 10% of SUVs ever go offroad.

The rest are strictly on the highways.

I sat in a FX45 a couple weeks ago at an auto show. I must say, it was the nicest cockpit I've ever been in (better than the G35 c/s, better than any BMW at the show, better than any merc at the show). I definitely want one.

I'd say that it is closer to 5% ;) The only off-roading my dad's Highlander has seen was at the end of a John Mayer concert in Cary, NC. Traffic was backed up getting out of the parking lot (200 cars trying to get through one exit with throughway traffic packed) so I just hopped the curb and climbed up a hill in the grass to get to the street above. Other than that, it hasn't seen much more than a bit of gravel.

One of my gf's coworkers just got one of these. If this thing is almost 50k, what's a Murano?
