"Exclusive: Mueller Enlists the IRS for His Trump-Russia Investigation"

"his probe has enlisted the help of agents from the IRS’ Criminal Investigations unit.

This unit—known as CI—is one of the federal government’s most tight-knit, specialized, and secretive investigative entities. Its 2,500 agents focus exclusively on financial crime, including tax evasion and money laundering."

It's all just rumor from sources at this point. The idea that Trump might get RICO'd does warm my heart...

Wow I just heard some lawyer dude say the Presidential Pardon game can be tricky because even if someone is pardoned for all wrong doings, when they get called in before a grand jury they can no longer plead the 5th because they cannot be prosecuted in theory they can be compelled/forced to testify

Forced? Well they wouldn't have 5th amendment protection for the crimes they've been pardoned from, but how would you know if someone pleads the fifth which crime they're protecting? But they probably could be held in contempt. Wonder if you can pardon yourself for that proactively.

*I think* the point was if Trump issued a broad blanket pardon, there is simply no reason to plead the 5th because you cannot incriminate yourself.

No justification is a better way to put it. Trump won't pardon any of them, anyway, because he can't trust 'em to not rat him out immediately thereafter. Only the threat of prosecution maintains their silence.

That issue comes up quite a bit in cases where immunity (or partial immunity) has been granted. The courts know how to handle it. A flat out refusal to testify based on an unspecific 5th Amendment claim will not work.

Although I tend to agree that Trump won't pardon anyone until he is absolutely sure they won't testify against him.

Should Trump et al. get into super hot water, perhaps they would choose the consequences of their contempt of court rather than their treason.

Much news on early drafts of letters this week...the Both Sidesers and Whatabouters must be tied in knots.

On the one hand, Trumpers are incensed about a draft Comey wrote exonerating Clinton before all witnesses had testified. On the other hand, they need to dismiss a draft Trump wrote outlining reasons for firing Comey.

So much confusion, how to structure the talking points without tripping up??

Seems the strategy is to talk about antifa--the new buttery males. Getting into indictments is just a losing issue for them.

If it didn't happen to Mr. Fast and Furious, why would it happen to Trump? I guess the coup can't come fast enough.

You guys are still trying to get a scandal to stick on Obama, that's adorable. And from the crowd who were all for Cheney, Bush, Rumsfeld and Rove lying us into Iraq no less. Ha.

Don't forget the Ownership Society, the greatest top down financial looting spree since 1929.

For some reason Obama's obvious integrity seems to make them extremely angry, despite that being what they claimed to want.

Because (many) Conservatives struggle with integrity. It tends to get in the way. They leave themselves no choice but to lash out and bring anger to the table for those that put it in their way or that their opposers have some. That is why they feel so judged, it's not because we in fact do judge them. Sure their feelings get hurt but only because they know they have to and will be despicable to get what they want knowing that what they want will hurt other people. It's pretty gross!

Fingers crossed this Trump Era fixes some of it... Not holding my breath. But at least I'm hopeful that Trump and many others will be held legally accountable.

I'm a patient bloke, I've waited for 40 years for the US to straighten the fuck up. I can wait another decade.

Don't worry fskimospy, you won't have to go buh-Britain on this one, we're in the same fucking boat as you are with a two party system where both parties are going further to the extremes.
