My only opinion of India was that it is dirty and I mentioned that today. I am not allowed to believe it is dirty when I've seen videos and pictures of India? That is my opinion is it not? I think you are directly converting @ $1 ~= INR 45.00 (it's closer to 42.00 now). It doesn't always convert that way. For instance, here in the U.S, I pay about a third of my income towards housing, but in India it would be more like a fifth. Also, labor is cheaper, which makes services and any labor-intensive commodity far cheaper than it would be in the U.S. $2 still not cheap in India, but sully's point is more pertinent.

not to mention that just because $2 USD = 90 Rupees has no meaning unless you have a breadbasket valuing

for instance, in india, an order of garlic bread w/ cheese at the pizza hut cost me about 150 Rs. which is CHEAP compared to america, but a little expensive for middle class india

now with that in mind, imagine paying your monthly internet bill on less than a pizza hut appetizers cost

your friend went there to help poor children right? well if they are poor children, they must be living in poor areas. what constitutes a poor area? an area is poor if it has very limited "necessities", i.e. electricity, running water, accessible roads, government services, etc...

additionaly, areas become poor because of low land value, which could be caused by proximity to facilities such as garbage dumps, industrial areas, areas that have been un-maintained, coastal lands, high pollution areas.

now since your friend went there to help these poor children in poor areas, he probably stayed very close to there in a youth hostile or some other establishment. as such, he was not provided with many of the accomodations that he might be used to, or he might have been unable to adapt to the methods employed by the locals. as such, neither he, nor the poor people he was there to help, are able to live to the standards that accompany higher classes than the poor classes.

My friends just came back from India helping children that need badly needed medical supplies and foods. This was in the capital city and not some remote part of India. He couldn't even take a shower daily and everything was dirty.

I have seen pics and videos of some of these muslim countries, and according to them people dance in the streets and hand out candy when Americans die. Cant always go by what you see on tv or a picture.

In another thread you stated that India has the third largest economy in the world. I dont know why you keep bringing up the fact that its dirty. On tv, when they do documentries or reports about a country they tend to point out the negatives a lot, and show pictures of the suffering people.

You cant talk about a country of 1 billion people as dirty just by watching some video or seeing a picture. Wow

It is still a large economy. There are different means to measure GDP and in many books India is still the third largest economy.
