Lol, people think a politician can fix all of India's problems. So damn gullible.

No one is saying that he can fix all problems. However he can initiate reforms, start change and most importantly inspire people, which no other politician in India right now is capable of.

India will have to make massive internal changes to alter the perception that has been generated over the past 20-30 years as to what India is viewed as.

I do not think that India was ever considered an economic might.
"Spiritual and cultural might" may be in the eyes of the beholder.

India cannot and does not need to become a global superpower, in my opinion. What we do need, is to eliminate poverty, bring about industrialisation, build a strong economy and end the culture of socialism and free handouts from the government. BJP is a right-wing party and in my opinion they are quite capable of that.

Such an attitude is not going to accomplish much.
You are also encouraging internal strife by excluding anyone that is not Hindu.

Hopefully your new leadership does not exhibit this attitude that you are showing.

He is not excluding non-Hindus. India's problem is that Muslims often use the cry of "We're minorities!" to claim special benefits and affirmative action from the government. The govt. doesn't dare to refuse since Muslims vote in chunks and winning elections becomes difficult for anyone who does not pander to them. There have been cases where liberals(known as seculars in India) have glorified and supported terrorists and Islamic extremists to get support from the Muslim community. Right wing parties such as BJP etc do not do so and therefore they are labelled communal(India's version of the race card).

This has caused a great damage to India's internal security. There was a case in which the minister for home affairs(who controls the police) instructed the police to be lenient and not arrest criminals if they are muslims. This kind of crap is wrong and needs to stop. This is what he is talking about.

I'll believe it when I see it's happened. I've seen too many countries elect a new leader expecting to see things get better only to see members of the leader's party become rich while the welfare of the people remains the same or worse.

Yes, but what makes you think there will be "growing freedom" there? If OP likes this clown so much, it probably means he's a mental case and racist.

Bingo! Actually, that Modi is worse - he actively aided and abetted religion-based riots when he was head of his state (Chief minister, same as Governor here), leading to horrifying tales of Muslim families slaughtered while police stood back, or even helped the perpetrators.

Unfortunately, that is the very platform he's fought his campaign on: fear, suspicion, and divisive politics.

Truth is, while there's a fringe in the population that's communal and bigoted, most of the voting population wants a new government just to get some change in their lives, and Modi is simply in the right place to take advantage of this wave.

He's a one-trick pony, as is his party - religion is their mantra; but the claim to be the 'saviour' of a huge swathe of people based on their religion is not easy to deliver. Give him a couple of years, and he's gonna prove himself to be a bigger pain than the current government, and will hopefully be kicked out.

So there is no caste system anymore?

Judging by the original poster's attitude of 'eat shit if you aren't Hindi', I think we can all be assured that intolerance is alive and well in his country and he supports it whole-heartedly.

Exactly this is like the crazy religious right winning national power in the US. If they succeed in improving the country will depend on if they are willing to open up to further development, address corruption, and most importantly reduce regulation.

The OP is a mental midget so of course he would support those kinds of views. Hell you would have to be pretty fucking retarded to worship weird looking 6 armed statues in the first place.

You are perhaps excused for thinking there is no line of propriety to cross in P&N. Congratulations, though, you found one. Please don't cross it again.

ding ding! the ultra nationalists here really don't understand the response OP is getting. He's a known racist around here.

anyway, it would be well and good for someone to come along and begin fixing India's endless problems....but life experience tells me this dude just isn't going to do it.

He may have nice humble origins, but let's just see what happens when he grabs that power.

And honestly, if people like the OP support him, that is already a bad start.

You and the OP could be clones - you think so alike. You both should get a room...

Now they'll probably start a nuclear war with Pakistan or something 😛

Someone might do it eventually, wouldn't be surprised.

india's biggest problem is people pooping outdoors

once they stop doing that, i want to visit

I don't know, when you got to go, you got to go, whether there is a portable john or not. Too many people, antiquated sewage systems, not a john of any kind nearby and what used to be tandoori chicken is screaming to get out, you just need to release the demon. Public humiliation be damned.

my understanding of him as he seems to be some sort of a religious fanatic dipshit

However, if you play to visit, just stay in the parts that is meant for the tourists and you want have to see any of that, hell, I visit India every 2 3 years and even I never see that anymore. Just like when my family visit US I don't take them anywhere near south or the west side of the town
