So..while I sort of knew this was in the works, the first trailer dropped today. I can't say I was too excited, but the trailer doesn't actually look too bad and a few parts of it gave me chills. I got a Starship troopers vibe from it. I am not expecting too much, but I'll watch it as I really liked the first one and I mean, it HAS been 20 years...and at least it's not a reboot. Lots of "No Will Smith?" comments, but most of the cast is returning, even the wife...so I'm guessing there will be a cameo or at least some explanation of him missing (rumor is he died in an unrelated incident).

I'm skeptical as far as quality, I'm sure it will make money.

But it is going to be a summer movie, so that would be expected.

I detested Starship Troopers, was one of my favorite books growing up and they borked it badly. The mobile infantry didn't even have powered suits.

I wish someone would make that right if I ever saw anything as a reboot.

Yeah, I know that one isn't a reboot.

I enjoyed the first one. I thought it was a better war of the worlds than the actual war of the worlds (2005). Even if the "virus" was from a crappy laptop.

Make sure to head to www.warof1996.com, it has a nice time line from 1996 to the new movie. It explains a lot of why there are aliens still on earth and what the new movie is about.

Normally these movie websites are just gimmicky crap...this one has the same feel, but it does offer some useful information.

Looks like its gonna suck. They are taking themselves too seriously from what I can see. Looks like they added 100x more of everything to the extreme as well to grab the ADD crowd and make sure they stay in their seats.

I loved the first one (I was 13 when it came out, lol, it was right up my alley) and it still holds some nostalgia for me. The new one don't look that terrible to me, but then again I can accept it for what it is. I'll probably see it in theaters.

didn't bill pullman say in the first one the aliens take their whole society with them from planet to planet devouring each as they go?

how could their be anymore aliens to attack if they were all there?

all the ships surrounding the planet crashed too.
