Could you list what an average day of eating, consists off?

Seriously, I want to know as well! maybe we can save 100 a month at my house.. Ground mealworms don't count as food btw unless you are eating at McDonald's.

So you can survive and eat nutritious meals on a $1.25 a day? Even a can of Albacore Tuna costs more than that.
Yeah, that was what I was thinking. How can you weigh more than a buck twenty, not be anorexic, and live on more than noodles for that?

WTF! ok great she got a increase. but i agree with Genx how many fuckign kids does she havE? how could she not afford fresh produce with $525 amonth?

fuck im feeding 3 adults and 2 kids on 500 a month and we get plenty of fresh veggies and fruit.

"I can't buy a new car, but I can feed my family," she says

Well boo fucking hoo. let me guess you want the goverment to help with that too?

Exactly. I pay $600 for a 2 adults and 4 kids, not to mention the 3 dogs and 2 cats we have. My kids get all kinds of veggies, fresh and canned (which are just as good as fresh).

My wife and I spend about 200$ a month on food. We eat a lot of fresh produce. We also eat alot of beans rather than meat which helps keep cost down. People need to be educated on how to eat properly and cheaply. Unfortunately eating meat in the US is some type of status symbol or sign of manliness or some crap... the idea of eating beans or other proteins instead of meat is unthinkable for some even though it might taste better and is more healthy and much cheaper.
No eating meat, especially lean meats is healthy and part of a nutritious and balanced diet and it tastes a hell of a lot better than eating beans though I like to have beans as a side dish often.
I don't disagree that lean meats are part of a balanced diet, but we are talking about how best to spend money when you don't have a ton of it... or maybe that is just what I am talking about :D
I'd rather do without Broad Band Internet and Cable TV than to resort to eating beans for every meal.

Oh please what does that have to do with anything?
That has to do with the poster I was replying too saying that he feeds a family of 5 and 3 pets on $600 a month. Either he's cheap(considering he makes a 6 figure salary) or the cost of food is inexpensive in Texas

I know someone who got fired from his job about 1 1/2 years ago. He was on unemployment for 6 months (with no intention of finding a job, he planned to just live off his credit cards then file bankruptcy). After unemployment wore out he then filed for public assistance (welfare). He now has free health care, and they are giving him foodstamps, etc, and some cash to pay rent or car or whatever he has. With some crap Obama passed about expanding unemployment benefits, he was now able to reclaim an extention from a year and a half ago. So now he has free medical care, food stamps, and is now receiving unemployment AGAIN.

He calls me up 2 weeks ago saying he has $150 on his foodstamp card (EBT) and it's about to expire so he's going on a grocery store spending spreee. He's going to the grocery stores and filling up his freezers with steak. And I said "Thanks alot" (sarcastically) and he says "No, thank you!!!! I'll think of you when I'm enjoying it."
Yeah right, sounds like a bullshit story to me.

I haven't had steak in the last year because I've been paying my bills and working and I'm struggling to make ends meet. In fact I had to borrow money from my mother to pay some bills 6 months ago and I'm just starting to see a recovery on my bank account after cutting a bunch of expenses (cell phones, and ragging on my gf for leaving lights on in the apartment, ) I haven't had health care at work in the past 2 years because again, I can't afford it.
Hmm, maybe you should go off broadband so you don't have to have mommy bail you out. That'll save you some money so you can have a nutritous meal now and then

I'm better off doing nothing! The point of this message is not "Woe is me!" It's friggin EBT should get you rice, flour, sugar, salt, basic materials to cook something and nothing preprocessed or expensive meat product. They aren't working, they have all day to cook and prepare meals. Atleast make them have to work for their meals by atleast cooking the shit.
Sure sounds like a woe is me message, right down to your fictitious story about your dead beat friend

Sounds about typical for a liberal. The "I can't give in or even have a solid debate on anything so I'll just attack the messenger." But anyways. Thanks for trolling. Maybe get a position and stop calling everybody someone who lives with mommy. As you probably need to follow your own advice. (PS I left mommy over 15 years ago) How old are you twit?

Even with me eating ~800 calories a day (dropped 25 pounds in a couple of months) I was spending more than 50$ a month. I could see how it could be done (Something like eating mostly cereal and taking a multivitamin), but expecting your average person to live off 50$ a month and still be a productive member of society (or attempting to become one) is naive.

There was a lady that I saw on the news that lives off $85 I think it was a month with a family of four. She coupon clips, rebates, price matches, and all kinds of stuff like that. She had this big photo like album filled with coupons and such. She said cashiers hate her.

Sounds typical for someone with a flair for the nonsense, make up some anecdotal story to try and prove your point. look boy, you called me out first for my response to a guy who says he can feed a family of 5 and 3 pets on $600 a month which I found pretty amazing as my family of 3 and one pet spend more than that and we are pretty frugal shoppers (coupons, day old bread etc.) Then you go off on a fantastical story about a dead beat friend of yours who lives and eats like a King on unemployment and food stamps. Finally you end your post with a woe is me tale and you expect me or anybody else to believe you?

She saves a lot of money doing that but she also puts in a lot of time collecting coupons, finding the best deals and going from store to store using them. I know, my wife has done that.

Just off the top of my head:

Ramen (40 per box) - $20*
Rice (50 lb bag) - $30*
Eggs (18 per) - $2
Canned corn - $0.75-$1.00
Canned green beans - $0.75-$1.00
Dry Pasta (16 oz) - $1
Pasta sauce - $1.5-$2.00
Chicken - $0.99-$1.19/lb.
Ground beef - $0.99-$1.99/lb.
Bananas (3 lbs.) - $1.50
Soda (2 liter) - $0.75 - $1
Water (per gallon) - $0.30
Bread - $1.25 - $1.50
PB&J - $2
Milk (1/2 gallon) - $1.25

* lasts longer than a month

I watch for sales and buy in bulk. I rarely substitute fast food for a meal. Can't remember the last time I had any. The last time I ate at a restaurant was in end of May. The time before that was early April. I rarely buy junk food (chips/donuts/candy) or snacks (crackers/etc.). Last time I bought some chips was the Super Bowl.

Where do you live? How much do you weigh? What store do you go to?

I'd love to find bread/milk that cheap that lasts a month where I live.

gallon of milk will run about $2.50 on sale.

i feel the same way about this as i do with the local democrats wanting to increase schip levels to $66,000+. all kids should have medical insurance and nutritious food. but we should be able to come by your house and confiscate your escalade and your plasma tv.

Nah man, gallon of milk on sale is $2. I don't use/drink that much before it goes bad. Hell, I don't use up the half gallon before it goes bad.

Neither did I. I'm surprised that you can buy a quantity of bread/milk that will last a month for <$3.

I'm not saying that you can't live on $50/month, but without answering the first two question I posed it's unreasonable to say that anyone spending more than that is spending too much, especially with such a judging tone.

Yeah, everything on your list, except the milk, is comparable to pricing at my local Publix. They actually charge more per ounce for 1/2 gal milk, a gal. is $2.89

I surmised there would be a lot of noodles, rice, and bread products. You should add beans, as an earlier poster mentioned. They are cheap and good too, so many recipes/different ways to prepare and eat them.

Obviously you don't buy a month's worth in one buy. And because I don't eat bread or drink milk the entire month.

I think a half gallon here at my local Publix is $2.19.

good god you must be unhealthy. i spend $50 on supplements a month. I probably spend $500 a month feeding myself (unless I go out for a tasting menu then its $500 per meal). It's amazing what you people will argue about. I bet all of you complaining about this are retired old men with nothing better to do during your days.

Food costs more in cities.

Still haven't answered the weight question.

I mean, it's great that you can get by on food with little flavour, but I just find it gross.

It has been great to see them step it up, and not get buried by Walmart and Target and BJ's, like Kash&Karry, Albertson's, Goodings, and Win Dixie have.

Yea, I must be because I'm not stuffing my face with 2000+ calorie fast food meals and junk food.
