If this is incomprehensible maybe Abbott should start paying attention.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said 14 studentsand a teacher were killed in a mass shooting at a school in the city of Uvalde on Tuesday.
Abbott said the shooter was an 18-year-old Uvalde resident who entered the school with a handgun and may also have been carrying a rifle. Inside the school, the gunman “shot and killed — horrifically, incomprehensibly” more than a dozen children and a teacher, Abbott said. The gunman is also dead and it is believed that officers responding to the scene killed him, Abbott said.

If you don’t like the Washington Post I am sure a story about the event is available at your media outlet of choice.

As said in the other thread, fuck this country and our inability to give a shit to any degree necessary to do anything about murdered kids.
People care, but as a society (or at least the people holding power), we've decided abundance and easy access to guns >>> *.

Pretty sure the Texan response will be mandatory firearms training for teachers, principals and school administrators--and incentives for them to carry on school grounds.
And it will then be the Jordan Klepper bit where he does active shooter training and dies most times, except in real life...

I wonder how the majority of Texas' teachers feel about being trained killers as part of their job description rather than having increased security personnel, preferably former LEO's and ex-military who already have proven themselves to be qualified and competent.

But what about their right to entertainment at a shooting range? Doesn't that outweigh the rights of many people to live?

Elementary school kids should have armed themselves, or we should turn public places where people gather into pseudo-prisons with heavily armed guards. Whatever the answer is, it will certainly involve no new restrictions on guns.

Nothing is going to be done, and if we as a country really wanted to do something how would be go about it? The cat has been out of the bag for decades. There are just too many guns, and we have too many soft targets. We would have to give up our rights for a chance at some kind of protection fro the government. And, that could lead to an erosion on our rights. The mental health issues in the country are off the radar. Seriously, have you noticed the attitude of many of the people today? Angry. Hateful. Depressed. Its like a plague. We don't have the resources to combat that. Its going to get worse as the economy gets bad. As more people fall into poverty, I expect more of this stuff to take place.

Its a sad day in America, and actions like this school shooting has become normalized, which is the first step to a crumbling immoral society where people have lost hope.

To paraphrase Thomas Jefferson:

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of children and teachers.
Notice all of our resident chicken-shit gun nutters are silent?

I remember the mayor of London after a string of terror attacks: "part and parcel of living in a big city."

Well unfortunately, gun violence is also "part and parcel" of living in the US

I agree, that will the the response. Then next time it will be a teacher that kills the kids, or maybe a kid that takes the gun away from a teacher.

We could do something about it, we choose not to. All it would take is making the 'Well regulated militia' part important again. They put that part in for a reason, the guns are supposed to be well regulated and part of a militia. We do have the resources to combat all of this, we just choose to give it to the ultra wealthy and mega corporations instead.

Trouble is... we have way too many guns and way too many dysfunctional citizens. THE GUN has become the first and only option when settling arguments and acting out personal grievances.
Just watch any episode of the tv series FEAR THY NEIGHBOR.
Cookouts turning into shootings, kids playing basketball turning into neighbors murdering neighbors, a dog peeing on a rose garden turning into a bullet in the head... of the dog owner.

Lets face it, Americans are just too fucked-up to own a gun. No more allowances for the game-hunter or for the so called "responsible gun owner". We have no such thing as a responsible gun owner, not in America... only fucked-up future mass murderers.
We all have our bad days, but now it is common knee jerk reaction to address our bad day with a gun. And apparently, the more guns we own the better we feel we can deal with our mounting problems. A gun for every problem. Never enough guns, America sure loves the gun.

The way I see it, with every family hit with gun violence you then have a family in favor of gun control. In the case of todays school shooting with 15 dead and report 13 injured, that equals 28 families who will now support gun control when they probably did not before today. And with every passing mass shooting after mass shooting, more and more families hit with gun violence will switch to supporting gun control, sadly the hard way....

So eventually, after enough mass shootings, hopefully the number of families switching to favored gun control will outnumber those families who oppose gun control. Those opposed only because their family has yet to experience gun violence, but they will change their mind once it becomes their turn to experience the horrors of gun violence. Maybe their child in a school room, or a son or daughter, or a spouse. Its only a matter of time before the majority becomes gun control advocates. Just today we added 28 more families to the listof gun control advocates. Tomorrow? How many more will be added???

A cop armed with an AR-15 in every classroom paid for by cutting teacher salaries.
Even better would be full time CCTV surveillance and armed guards at entrance. Exits only opened automatically or remotely by surveillance team in case of emergency. Every teaching institution becomes a fort. That's the price to pay for the freedom of letting loonies walk around freely with firearms.

I don't think anyone said that, did they?
In the other threads talking about firearms and/or shootings, there is a lot of people who say that it is impossible to safely own and operate a firearm.

If anyone anywhere who isn't calling for the immediate seizure of 400+ million guns is a "gun nutter" then I guess I am one now and would definitely respond to defend the stance when called out for it.

As a short response to this specific instance, yet again all this is, is a symptom of the collapse of human society - and specifically the US as a relatively "free" society that has been arming up for going on 250 years now. Saying that all guns should be confiscated tomorrow isn't going to help anything, for a myriad of reasons, although it might make someone feel better after saying it.

It’s not just the existing guns. This idiot bought 2 assault rifles the day he turned 18. Buffalo shooter bought new one. The prior school shooter given gun by his parents 3 days before he used it

This is what the parents voted for. Thoughts and prayers go out to the bullets lost in this massacre, they didn’t ask to kill children, people did.
