Has anyone noticed that the Sony KV-32HS20 is not an HDTV? It is HDTV capable but for you to enjoy HD programming you would have to buy a receiver, which would cost a few hundred more. I still think this is a great deal on a great TV, I just wanted to make sure everyone knew what they were getting.

You're right- but even the 16x9 "HDTVs" for the most part do not come with a built-in HDTV tuner,
so you'll still have to buy an outboard tuner anyway.

That is a smoking deal for that TV- if I could have gotten that deal, I'd have that TV instead of
the one I just bought. Damn.

Like somebody said earlier.. Beware.. this wega is ONE BIG AND HEAVY MOFO!!! Draggin that TV from the garage into the living room costed alot of energy in addition to 4 big scratches Good thing the screen is still in pristine condition.. Anyways.. we watch TV in the dark so it still looks perfect

I've got a 27" Wega and it weighs 100lbs. Moved it from basement to son's upstairs bedroom(so he could play Gamecube while recovering from surgery-- the things we parents do!!!). What I noticed is that just behind the screen on the front are a pair of "handles" which made it a whole lot easier to carry. Don't know if the 32" has that but I thought it was a nice feature on the one I've got.Main thing to remember is almost all the weight is in the front.

I'd imagine the plastic handle (if there is one, but apparently not) would easily break since the TV weighs 200 lbs.. watch where you put the TV on too.. unless it's really heavy duty material or like oak wood for stand/table, anything hollow underneath will break or highly deformed o_o


I just got into HDTV thing.. How does the reciever work? is that like cable going thru the house or more like Satellite TV? In either case.. is there a (or any) public signal or do I HAVE to pay monthly service fee?

You need to come over and watch HDTV, or a DVD thru my progressive DVD player, on my Hitachi 53UWX10B RPTV. I was ready to buy the Sony 36HS20 when I fell in love with the Hitachi.

BTW.. I looked at the regular WEGA and ended up getting the XBR instead. The WEGA looked flat to me and the XBR actually looked a lot more 3d to me.

very nice tv.... our family has the 36HS20 series. very clear picture. if u watch a lotta dvd's the picture is a little small cuz of the aspect ratio thingy... but if u watch mostly tv... this is sweet. u also need to buy a stand. and it's heavy... ours was 250 lbs... i had like 5 of my friends help me move it.

most tv's that are hd compatible don't come w/ hd recievers... it's at least 600 bucks for one... and there aren't even that many hd channels out there yet. i don't think it's worth it to get an hd reciever now...

I had a top-of-the-line projection HDTV from Toshiba.

All I can say is that unless you watch DVD's only, your digital cable feed (as mine is) is going to give you a crappy picture. Cable feed is crappy to begin with, but it's accentuated on a good projection set.

Since I watch more cable than anything else, I returned the projection TV, for a Sony WEGA 36". Now the cable picture is translated acceptably and not with moving/crawling pixels from the HDTV Projection set (even a digital convergence did NOT solve this problem or returning it for another same model number).

My recommendation: tube tvs will always BEAT ANY projection TV--even HDTV projection sets. You can only argue this point if you have a DVD player. Even Mitsubishi's acclaimed Diamond Series can't translate cable well. 'Nuff said.

Agreed. But then if you had the money to buy a top of the line projection HDTV, why are you watching cable!!!!?!?!?! If you had picked up a Dish6000 and watch HBO HD and Showtime HD as well as OTA HD, played that on your projection TV, you would've thrown up at the sight of a WEGA trying to fully display all 1080 lines of resolution (tube TVs aren't capable of 1080 lines of resolution...usually max out around 860).
