I agree Decaprio is one of the better actors out there as well. I remember back when i didnt know who he was and saw "What's Eating Gilbert Grape". I thought the kid playing Arny was actually retarded. Low and behold a few years later Decaprio becomes a big name in Hollywood and then it dawned on me that Arny was an acting job and not an actual retard. Talk about acting :)

You say plot hole, I say plot device. Get over it.

Inception was way over-rated though. You are correct in that it could have been much better.

But it was not that bad. It was definitely something to se in theaters. But I have no interest in ever seeing it again.

The driver of the plot. Some wealthy Japanese man who apparently has the power, with his cell phone, to drop U.S. murder charges and international arrest warrants within minutes. MINUTES.
The deal was prearranged, the cell phone call was the final okay to go through with it. That's a perfectly cromulent situation.

Why didn't Cobb just get plane tickets for his kids as well? He seems wealthy enough, and not tied down (obviously he couldn't be too tied down to have escaped with his wife to a dream state for 50 years).
50 years in the dream state. They said quite clearly and multiple times that dream-time is much faster than real, especially in the Limbo type area they were stuck in. Their bodies were out for hours, maybe a day or two.

I thought it was rather good. Apparently I'm in the minority of film critics here.

No, I agree with you. I thought it was well-crafted film and some of the holes the OP references are not holes at all; he also has a very different interpretation of the film than I do.

Edit: also, Avatar was shitty.

The genius behind Inception is duping the viewers that there's cohesion, a story, behind all the $200 million worth of senseless action like a gazillion explosions, 15 minutes of a rotating hallway, 5 minutes of falling car, etc etc.

I thought it was a good movie - I didn't think it was extraordinary.
Towards the end, I was starting to doze off during one of the "action" scenes.

I'll reiterate what I have said in 4 inception threads so far:
I think your all giving it a bit too much credit for being "complex" I found the movie easy to follow and made sense. The only "complex" part was when they were in the Tundra and you couldn't tell who was who because they were all dressed alike.

There was a lot of arbitrary stuff thrown in with no explanation you could ponder but why would you theres no point and no answer to it.

I thought the movie was good. One of the better movies released recently but I wouldn't call it complex by any stretch of the imagination because the whole plan and plot is laid out very simply and repetitively throughout the entire film.

Theres really not even any hidden details that you can go back and be like "Well I missed that the first time around" because everything is basically explained by the characters on the spot except a few meaningless detail and those are tossed up to "Well its the nature of the unknown" or some other crap.

I went in expecting to have a lot to think about or a hard time following it but unless you fell asleep its a pretty basic plot surrounding a unique catalyst.

I'll give it an 8.8/10

And Avatar did blow goats

Nolan fan, here.

I haven't seen all of his movies, but I don't rank Inception very highly. I think it's worth watching only one time. It's just too long.

People call it: "The thinking man's summer action flick." I saw a lot of non-sense and made-up plot device "rules" ...no actual science.

Made-up "rules" as plot devices = Pet peeve

It's why I couldn't fully enjoy Lord of the Rings.
Why is it that the ring can only be destroyed in the fires of Mordor, where it was made?
If Sauron made it, why can't he make another?

Lady in the Water had nothing but made-up rules, resulting in an unwatchable movie. Devil is the same way. What the hell happened to MNS? :(

This is exactly why I don't think Inception is as great as everyone made it out to be. Obviously the whole premise is "made up," but it seemed like all of the tension in the movie came from arbitrarily adding stuff to the set of made up stuff in the movie.

I still thought the movie was fine and all, just don't think it belongs in the IMDB top 250.

For the record I enjoyed Avatar too. I'd rather watch The Dark Knight than either Avatar or Inception, but I own all three on Blu-Ray. Best movie of all time? 12 Angry Men.

It was fine, I just didn't think about it too hard. Lots of things that don't make sense and it seems a bit unnecessarily long too. But it was still fun to see once. Not a movie I'd want to see a bunch of times though.

I kinda felt the same way about Avatar. I was glad I saw it once but I never really want to see it again.

To be fair, the rotating hallway fight scene was pretty awesome.

The part I found the most unbelievable was in the scene with the train going down the street, their dream car was a Hyundai Genesis. Fail!

I thought it was pretty good. I don't mind "made up rules" as long as they stick to them. The Matrix had a similar premise.

Lots of people on ATOT didn't like Inception? Shocking!

and they're totally gay for The Dark Knight. I don't get it.

Anyway, I had no problems with Inception. Whenever you create a different reality, you have to create a set of rules. it's called creativity. sigh...

In the end, I honestly didn't find anything about these rules insanely bizarre or forced, or too convoluted for even the most die-hard Michael Bay fan to understand. It was far less complex than the surface would have you think.

In the end, it was a fun ride for me--my only gripe is that the relationship between DiCaprio and his wife--my new favorite babe actress Marion Cotillard--was barely developed. Considering that much of their interaction-his history with her and her intrusion into his, well job, was the impetus for DiCaprio's character, it was played out quite weakly. They were great together, those moments were good though flat.

It certainly didn't feel too long for me.

Yep, Decaprio is awesome. I consider him a GREAT actor, one of the best.

I don't know if I would go that far

I loved it, especially with a nice surround sound setup :)

The low frequency effects were awesome in that movie for sure!

Haha - When the van slowly hit the water my wife came down and told me I was shaking all kinds of things in the kitchen (above my basement setup)

I thought it was a very enjoyable movie

I agree with you 100%. Inception was quite good, not as good as the hype (there was something strangely impersonal and uninvolving as far as the characters went) but certainly not a bad film. I still enjoyed it more than the incredibly well-written, well-acted, and better-reviewed Social Network, which I respect about as much as I just didn't have fun watching it.

Avatar was just terrible as a film, but had reasonably good visual effects.

Who played Arthur in Inception? I thought he was very good but I didn't recognize the actor.
