what about something like:

"the president died"

OMG POLITICS! burn them at the stake

if it is because it has to do with the pope you are a A-hole if you would consider reporting it

but if you are concerned because it is not related to work

than if you have ever sent a non-work related email to anyone using your work email address you are just a tool and a hypocrite
 
I think it's bizarre that you would be upset over that. Do you have a Pope phobia? Do you somehow feel that the email is designed to convert you to Catholicism?

It's just a bit of news that people all over the world will be interested in. Don't care? Delete it.

inappropriate? whatever.

I'd be more annoyed at the person wasting my time be sending out an e-mail about something I already knew than for the religious content.
 
if yu're upset about it then you're obviously hypersensitive and should be executed ASAP
 

when news of something that happened in a religious faith offends you its time to ask who are you? satan?

Not improper.

The Pope is a chief of state and the spiritual leader of 1 billion people. This is something that affects everyone on the planet. This is like sending an e-mail to anyone on Septermber 11, 2001, saying that a plane/two planes crashed into the WTC.
 
Why would your friend get upset over something like that? There are thousand of non-work related e-mails sent out every day, this is no different from the rest of them. Your friend's boss was simply stating the news, especially since this might be of interest to a lot of people. How is that different from when one of your coworkers has a baby and somebody sends out an e-mail with the news and pictures?

Who cares what religion she is? I'm not Catholic...not religious at all and I'm able to manage my outrage. He means something to Catholics but to me he's a guy in a funny hat. There's a new one now and knowing that doesn't offend me in the least.

 
Wow... it's so difficult to hit the DELETE key?

People send stupid mass-emails over big company networks all the time. Then some other morons decide to "reply to all" telling everyone that the message was unnecessary and then someone else decides to "reply to all" telling that person that his/her message was also a big waste of resources and then....

How the eff is that inappropriate? I'm not Catholic, but the election of a new pope has significant world consequences, regardless of what religon you are.

It's tacky and not professional.

In that vein I would probably hire a lawyer and launch a class action suit against my employer, seeking punitive damages in the amount of at least $3 million.
