inappropriate pope email at work? you make the call!

my friend at work received this email from her boss (big company, she works in a totally different department)--

SUBJ: Catholic Church Breaking News!
BODY: The smoke is white, a new pope was elected!

My friend and I agree that this kind of message is completely inappropriate. It's bad enough to send it at all, but to send it to all your subordinates is quite tacky imo.

It is inappropriate, it does not relate to work in any sort of way. As far as I'm concerned, it is catagorized under social and religious.

Just close it and move on... Atleast that's what I would do. Ofcourse this is because my boss sends me alotta useless stuff via e-mail.

It's called free speech. It's your choice whether you want to read the message or not.

No it's not. It's a company email. Free speech does not apply to a company.

Negative. It is company e-mail. We have a Computer and Systems Use/Access Policy that everyone signs on their first day of work. That kind of e-mail would violate the first paragraph.

"Appropriate Use. Systems owned by the Library are for use by the employees in the performance of their work only. This extends to access provided by the Library to all other systems, e.g., email, computer catalog, internet, ect."

so shouldn't you not be posting? *glare* 🙂

both my posting and her email are prohibited by the employee handbook 😉 fortunately my posting only offends you fools, while her email offends many of her subordinates.

Just saw a pic of him... He's got one foot in the grave already... :Q

ontopic, depends on email policy. Though personally speaking, something like that should only be sent to those you know share your views..

I can't believe people would put any effort into caring about an e-mail like that. Proof that you do not have enough to do. 😛

Who gives a flying turd? You don't have to be Catholic to find out that a new Pope has been elected. If you don't care, don't make a big fuss.
