I just got the call from ClubIT. They're getting in their shipment from Intel tomorrow and they'll be shipping them out tomorrow. They're using Fedex, and they said to expect the processor Mondayish. Finally!

Yea no problem. This makes me very happy that I didn't go with TankGuys or try my luck with NewEgg or elsewhere. ClubIT is giving it to me for a good price, free shipping, and earlier than other pre-order sites (like Tankguys, who are probably overloaded with their 200+ preorders)

It appears that 3.2ghz is the ceiling on this CPU, will report back later with full results.

On the upside, this dirt cheap supertalent appears to do DDR-1000 just fine.

Not bad for $86 per 2GB.

3.2 is very nice, I'd be quite pleased with that on my forthcoming G0. What are your timings @ 1000Mhz?

3.2 is decent and what most users are hitting on B3s with reasonable temperatures. What are your temps in CoreTemp and what heatsink are you using?

40C load, custom external watercooling.

I may be able to get it up higher, but my motherboard is pissing me off.

Theres people (including AT at their review) that can hit 500fsb on the Gigabyte 965P-DS3, mine wont do over 350 without losing stability, even with cranked vFSB. I used to think it was the allendale E4300 i had, because it was a common issue with them to hit a wall around 350fsb.

But now the Q6600 is hitting a wall in the exact same place.

Unstable at 400x6 (which is stock speed)

Stable at 350x9 🙁

Well i think ive found the problem, i just touched the northbridge heatsink to feel if maybe it was getting poor contact (it would be cool then).

And i just burned the shit out of my index finger...

Time to add a fan, since gigabyte felt an overclocking mobo was ok with a passive heatsink.

is it too old to rma? I had convinced myself that my cpu was fsb limited at 468 but now you have me wondering about my mobo again. I want to drop in a penryn in 9-18 mos, and there's a reasonable chance that they'll be running at 1600 by then instead of 1333.

Im hoping to cram a in a penryn here too.

Ill give you an update on if the extra Nbridge fan helps or not, got an 80MM blowing directly on it now.

Hi all,

Newbie to the forum. Bought a Q6600 for 12500 INR (around 275 US ). upgrading to ASUS P5K Deluxe. Will be around the forum for a while. Just pardon my noobie questions, bear with me.

I had a DS3 P965 chipset board Revision 1.0 overclocked to 425FSB. These are some of the settings I've adjusted after I replaced the northbridge heatsink with Zalman NB47J and AC3.

Part 1: Tweaking the BIOS

1) Disable CIA 2
2) Set PCI Express to 100mhz (some users recommend Auto for DS3/DS4 and DQ6)
3) Set PCI frequency to 33mhz
4) Disable any speed spectrum
5) Disable 'Limit CPUID Max to 3'
6) Disable any voltage protection
7) Disable 'C1E'
8) Disable 'EIST'
9) Disable Virtualization Technology
10) Disable No Execute Memory Protect
11) Disably any other things you dont use like IDE ports if not using
12) Do not enable any speed enhancements you see

Part 2: Tweaking the voltage

1. Set MCH Voltage (vMCH) to 1.50-1.55V (only if overclocking past 400FSB) - If I recall this is +0.2V
2. Set FSB voltage (vFSB) to 1.40V (If I recall this is increased by +0.1V)
3. Increase SB Voltage by +0.1V from default.

This overclock worked perfectly fine with BIOSes F7 to F9. After that I sold the board so cannot testify to the more current versions.

Given how hot these things run, the thermal spec difference alone makes the X32xx's a better choice than the Q6xxx's, 85C vs. 71C for the G0's respectively, assuming prices are roughly the same.
