I started wearing wristwatches when I was a kid...maybe 3rd grade. Not everyone can wear one comfortably. It just makes sense (to me) to start with a cheapo for a while...then, if he wants, step up to a better watch.

If it is doing that then it is broken.
The seikos have dual language day/date, so if you set it to english, it will stay english (mon-tue-wed-etc) but spanish stays spanish. It only rotates forward once a day at midnight (or shortly after midnight).

Just a thought...since the OP says he's never had a watch...why not start out with a cheap Timex or Casio?

No lie. Getting hung up on a fancy pants status symbol wrapped around your wrist strikes me as asinine.

it could be an AM PM thing maybe. English for am, spanish for pm

OR maybe I'm just high. I changed it to TUE. We'll see if it goes to WED later
