No, I work in clinical research on HIV, oncology, and dyslipidemia. People like me are the guys who make sure tens, if not hundreds, of millions of people around the globe have interventions to treat their disease. You do a disservice to the entire UHC movement when you act like a jerk about all this stuff. Screaming at people is not helpful in the least. If you're going to talk trash about something you should back it up with more than personal vignettes laced with hatred and swearing rather than just flail accusations around and laugh about it when you get called out on it.

The only way that single payer system is gonna work is if it comes with some serious consequences for not taking care of your self.

Examples:

1. cancer due to smoking or chewing tobacco... too fucking bad. Enjoy what is left of your life unless you can pay for your own treatment

2. Fat because you eat too much and don't exercise...need heart surgery? Too fucking bad...

3. (the scary one) too old to make the surgery worthwhile... money or organ better spent on someone else? Too bad.

Now mind you i don't agree these examples above but it is a fact that about 10% of patients absorb an enormous amount of health care costs and lot of those patients are smokers and/or way overweight.

I know first hand that the quality of healthcare in Canada sucks compared to the US... not even close. But at least it is available for everyone. But I'd rather pay my 200 a month for Kaiser HMO thank you very much.

Healthcare is better in the UK and France than in Canada but still not up to snuff with the US.
