Why is the motto of America "In god we trust" apparently it was changed to that in the 50's from e pluribus unum which is a far better motto. So with America being all about separation of church and state wtf?!

I posted it in the wrong sub forum so I reposted it here.

You have no fucking idea what your talking about

In God We Trust was adopted as the official motto of the United States in 1956. It is also the motto of the U.S. state of Florida. The phrase has appeared on U.S. coin currency since the 1860s and on paper currency since 1957. [1] Its Spanish equivalent, En Dios Confiamos, is the motto of the Central American nation of Nicaragua.[2]

This was you trolling, fuck off.

We however are a christian nation we have no "no church and state" rules. (that I'm aware of) Plus that was made a loooong time ago, you guys did this in the 50's!?!

The Church and State thing originally meant there was to be no official religion and that all views were to be tolerated. Over time, unfortunately, 'Tolerance' was substituted with "Intolerance". So now all we do is scream that the other guy is wrong. Followed shortly by someone else screaming that (your) screaming is wrong.

And, if you want to stir the pot, you could start with why "Novus Ordo Seclorum" - which also appears our dollar bill - means the Illuminati have taken over the United States. And perhaps add interpretations of the fact that "In God We Trust" appears on $1 and $5 bills, but not on a $20: Meaning eventually Cash will Triumph over Religion...

It kept the commies at bay. <GeneralJackRipper>But it didn't stop them from fluoridating our water. That's why I only drink distilled water, or rain water, and only pure-grain alcohol. </GeneralJackRipper>

I wasn't there but I heard Christianity was still pretty popular in the US in the 50s.

Didn't they add that in because they didn't want our country to look godless like the soviet union? I'm fairly sure its a cold war thing that no one did away with. In all honesty its a few words who really gives a shit, we have bigger problems then arguing endlessly about religion.

Actually as you quoted in post #3 we did it in 1860, just added it to paper currency in the 50's...and while it's generally believed to be referring to the Christian God, it really doesn't specify what religion...

The US is not a Christian nation, but a lot of people here in it believe that it is and want to force that belief down everyone's throats.

I don't really care about religion. Not sure if there is a God or not. But as long as these words appear on our currency, I am fine with it. It seems to drive the retards around the country nuts and I love it.

I don't think that you fully realize what separation of church and state means in the US context. This is probably because your barbaric country mandates that its head of state be an inbred bitch (soon to be her inbred son) who must be the head of an organization that believes in a specific fairly tale.

March 2003 The House voted 400-7 to keep "under God" in the pledge. I highly doubt the Forbes' 'In God We Trust' bill sent to full House will have any substantial different results.

Yeah but take the words away and you can see different retards go nuts.

I think it should be switched every few years, for that reason alone.

Americans aren't very good at foreign languages. Besides, the whole world now speaks American, which is what God intended.

I do remember God mentioning that the engine should go in the front, and the drive wheels in the back, but don't recall anything about language...

Now that's a great idea. I wish that could be implemented. Can't stand all the bitching and moaning going on in this country. There are real problems that need to be addressed. Oh, and I know, that's what makes our country so great---we can address real important issues and have morons complain about trivial ones at the same time.

What a flamebaiting g00ber. You need to worry about being a Brit with your beloved royal family and leave US policies to the American voters/representatives.

E Pluribus Unum was OK, but with the fascists in the 30s and 40s and then the commie scare of the 1950s it had to go. We needed something that distinguished Americans from fascism and communism and In God We Trust fit the bill. Whether you are religious or not it expresses that deep seated all American distrust of everything.

We don't trust fascism, we don't trust communism, we don't trust the federal government, we don't trust each other, and we certainly don't trust some little piece of green paper. Oh, we could have put something else like "Trust No One" but, that wouldn't sit too well with the banks and Wall Street boys putting that on money. Nope, it had to be In God We Trust because even our religions don't trust anyone else. Putting it on smaller bills was just a way to remind the poor that if nothing else they always had their religion to fall back on.
