In case I don't make it, I bequeath FINAL UPDATE: We're Home!

April 5th Update:

Andrew was finally released from the hospital after 17 days. Kidney is doing great, all of his lines are out including his dialysis line that was in his neck and he's feeling good.

Funny thing is before his transplant, he couldn't eat more than a 1,000mg or Potassium, so cheese, bananas and milk were very limited. Now after the transplant the doc has told him to eat more cheese and milk because he's actually too low in potassium.

He has to load up on several medications for a while, but he's cool with them. It's just good to be home.

March 23rd Update:

Pics have been added on Post 193. Not for the squeemish. Actually, they aren't that bad and I didn't post any close-ups. My son has on large one that starts on the left side of his abdomen and goes all the way around to the back. Right now it itches. Poor guy. Good news is that all IV lines have come out with the exception of his dialysis line (goes through where his neck meets his shoulders. They are using it for his drips and medicines, most medicines anyway, and just in case they need to put him back on dialysis. Eventually that will be taken out as well. He was also moved out of ICU and into a room. If any of you want to send him a cheer up note, you can do it here. His room is 1204. His name is Andrew.

March 21st Update:

Looks like I will be able to go home today. Unfortunately, Andrew is still in quite a bit of pain. The world hates him and he thinks everyone wants him to die 🙁.

The worse thing is they won't let him eat today. He has been demanding pizza from anyone who will listen (he's 10 btw). However, the kidney is working great. His creatinine (not creatine), potassium (too much can kill you) and BUN (a protein measure) levels are in the range of a normal person. This is great news. He's also urinating well. I haven't seen him yet, as I just got unhooked of everything, but should soon and am going to try to get him up and walking.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Pics will be coming soon.

March 20th Update:

Just to let everyone know, my son and I are doing well. I'm back in my room and he's in the ICU where he'll be for the next several days. I'm pretty damn tired, so I'll post with details and pics in a day or two. Thanks to everyone for the well wishes. Sorry to everyone who was on the benefactor list, maybe next time :awe:

March 19th Update:

Well, we are registered in the hospital. Nothing like being in arguably the best children's hospital in the country: Big, private rooms; Playstation 2's in every room; portable Wii's if we want one, radio station at the top of the floor that does daily contests, extensive menus, great nurses and Big Wheels to ride on the floor. What more can a kid or big kid ask for?

Surgeries start at 7am tomorrow with me, then 8:30 with the son. Things going well so far.
====================================================================

As I stated in the "would you donate a kidney" thread, I am giving one of my kidneys to my 10-year old son next Tuesday. So, in case this is one of the last days I see all of you, I hereby bequeath the following from my estate:

Eaglekeeper - my 1992 Corporate Taxation Revision 2 textbook. Keep it handy for the Tax Thread
Elfenix - my company contact for field level Astro tickets (I'll have the wife email you)
Craig234 - my softcopy edition of Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged
dmcowen - 2 bottles of balsamic vinegar, 1 bottle white vinegar, 1 bottle of red vinegar
KaOTik - my steam library of about 75 games (sorry, you probably have all of these already)
Zim Hosein - Birthday Wishes
rudeguy - my other kidney
iluvtruenos - 2lbs of beef left in my freezer
JulesMaximus - hmmmmm....
AMDZEN - football signed by Mike Shanahan
gorcorps - my other football signed by Mike Shanahan
spidey07 - my hopes that you keep up the good fight
MetalMat - my Iron Maiden CD collection
pyonir - my ATOT yahoo group men's and women's tourney challenge brackets
skyking - the patch panel & cat5 cables you sold and helped me install 8 years ago - they're still running strong
Amused - can't think of anything, but I still think we're long lost brothers split at birth
To the rest of ATOT - nothing. Most of you wouldn't know I was gone anyway except for when you need free tax advise. I swear about 95% of my PM's are tax questions. LOL.

Well at least you get PM. 🙁
Also in the past 2 months there was like only 3 days you did not post, and given your join date means odds of you being gone are quite low. 😛
Well that and that's a relatively common and safe procedure.

Your steam account only has 75 games? Did you join steam yesterday or something.

Thanks for not leaving me anything.

I just checked, I have about 150 games, LOL. You can have the other half. You and KaOTik can fight over the split.

There's an inheritance? <blows out St Jude candle>

Oh, wait, I'm not in it. 🙁 <relights candle>

Good luck to both of you and a speedy recovery.

I actually thought about you, but couldn't come up with anything. I'm sorry 🙁

Its ok, thank you anyway.

Sometimes we overlook what is truly important in life. Good friends, good family, good health,,, those are things we can not put a price tag on.

I truly hope everything goes good in the surgery, and later in life.

Lawlz at tag.

Implicitly Hal also gets nothing; though this didn't need to be said.

Honest response:

I'm sorry to hear about this tribulation. Having children is the most manly thing in the world because they are a part of you, a very vulnerable part. There's nothing like the heartache of a ill child and I can't imagine how much it scares and pains you to see him sick. PM me if you want to be on a prayer chain I'm a part of.

Best of luck to you and your son.

A bit proud I am not one of the folks bugging you for tax advice, but I'm sure the good karma will treat you well.
