So when is Diablo III being released ? Cannot find a definite release date.

Anyway, started a new game on Diablo II Battlechest to take up some free time. Well, 800x600 max resolution wasn't cutting it. "Playing it on a older PC" I found a "tool I guess you would call it" that changes the resolution.

Going from 800x600 to only 1280x1024 make a "huge" difference.

Does it still run the best using 3dfx GLIDE or did they ever make the other renderers as good via patches? I have an old Voodoo5 5500 system around somewhere.

Well, I cannot comment on GLIDE because although the PC is older, it is a Athlon 3500+/X1800 XL machine.

Voodoo 5 5500 was a great card. Always wanted one, but back then..Couldn't afford one.

Maybe Ill up the resolution on my "24 and try it at a lot higher resolution.

I must admit though. I love these types of games.....

Top down / Strategy / Age Of Empire / Diablo and Command & Conquer type games.

I love the way older games look even still today. Thats why I will always have a "old" PC around. Cannot forget about the great games of the past.

What is the OS, and what is the software? I have a 98 box sitting in the closet, PIII @ 1GHz, 512MB RAM, and a VooDoo 5 5500, I built it to run NFS III: Hot Pursuit (the original obviously) and Wing Commander Prophecy.

Diablo II looks a little better on the VooDoo 5 compared to modern hardware, but it isn't a huge difference like with WCP. In WCP, you get completely different lighting effects, better smoke trails, and a much better star field. In NFSIII you get better smoke, and better reflections and lighting effects.

The only difference I could see with the V5 and Diablo was if you got frozen or poisoned, the entire screen gets tinged with either blue or green, but past that, not much else in the way of differences.

If I can run it at 1600*1200 on my old CRT, or even 1920*1080 on my LCD, then I would be in hog heaven.

To answer your D3 question, it'll come out when blizzard is done with it. That's all we know and knowing blizzard it'll be later than sooner. But they have given hints to its release date around q4 2011 or early 2012. But you have a 6 month period notice because that is how long its beta will be (all of blizzard's betas last 6 months).

Excellent... I will definitely have to check that out.

This is what will appear when you go to change your resolution. Depending on your monitor, it will have different resolutions. Meaning, it should also have the max resolution of your monitor listed.

Just don't use it on BNet. It'll get you banned. Blizzard says since this means you can see more of the map it's cheating.

Not sure how much it is enforced, but I've read some stories about this getting people banned.

Play it like a man, 4 windows, 1 in each corner of the screen ;). It makes soloing go a lot quicker when you have all the auras you need, and rushing for runes is quick. I bought 4 battlechests just to do this a few years ago. I had a lot of self made non duped runeword gear in no time.

On singleplayer you can even get away with 8 at a time if you only have 1 copy of the game and don't need bnet.

/set players 8 is the only way to play. It is like self power-leveling.

Good luck with the wait. I fully expect that D3 won't be out before December 2011 at the earliest.

I call a Winter 2012 anticipated release with a that causes a full release at March 2013.

I can imagine the beta starting around winter of 2012 and continuing through March as blizzard figures out how people play in the same way that they did with SC2...probably a big focus on how the cheaters/hackers are functioning so they can fark them up hard when the actual game comes out because I guarantee you that the biggest annoyance in the game will be cheaters period.

Well, I don't play Diablo on Battle Net. Although I do have an account there. For this and Starcraft.

But yea, Diablo and Starcraft is roughly about the single player for me. :)

OK, they never bothered to make a 1.13 compatible version cuz D3 is on the way out.

Oh well. Was fun to play Diablo 2 again, if only for half an hour.

you play the beta? not exactly d2 with better graphics.

Yes I've had beta access for a while now.

No, no it's not the same. But all anyone has played is the first 30-40 min of the game and everyone is crying about stupid shit, see the beta thread if you need examples. I think it's funny how people bitch about CoD being basically the same same with slightly improved graphics and different skins/guns and how Activision is so crappy bla bla bla then with Blizzard makes changes to their game and before these idiots get a chance to sit down and play the (whole) game they're bitching that it's not the same as the one before it. Just STFU and wait until you've actually played the game for a few days/week before you declare it's all wrong. Will it be prefect? Probably not, I know there will be people unhappy with it either way. Why the fuck can't people wait to complain about a game until they've played it?
