And better fries too.

You're just bitter because you don't know how to order from In & Out.

My personal favorite, animal style 3 by 3 and animal style fries. Try it sometime.

I can hear your heart stopping now ;)

During all the time I lived in LA, I only ate at In'nOut a few times. Good burgers but I preferred the original Tommy's chili-cheeseburgers. Now those were real gutbombs.

mmm i've heard about tommy's.

i like in and out because they only make one thing - hamburgers. because of that they can focus on the food. everything is fresh - freshly cut lettuce, tomatoes, burgers cooked right there, etc, which is one of the best parts of in and out.

also i love their secret menu - i always get a no. 2 animal style with no pickles. if i'm daring, fries extra crispy.

there are also the protein burger (existed before the atkins insanity), flying dutchman, number x number, and more.. you can get animal style fries too but i'm not that brave.

the single thing i miss most about california is in-n-out.

their menu is simple because burgers, fries, and drinks are all they need! what, did you want some chicken-taco-hybrid to go with your microwaved pannido sandwich?

its a hamburger joint. there is a secret menu if you want a little more spice...

there are no other chain that actually give you large, LEAFY lettuce on the burgers with a fresh slice of tomato. macdonalds/burger king lettuce is nothing more than a 2"x2" square of dampened napkin. in-n-out cut their whole potatoes on the spot; you can see it. other places order theirs PRECOOKED for reheating.

they have a good business ethos. they dont franchise out to make money. they pay their workers WELL and treat them with dignity. on my campus i cant go a day without seeing someone in an In-N-Out t-shirt. now if you can get regular people, states away, to actually wear t-shirts of your hamburger joint, you must be doing something right

I've hit the In & Out off Lake Meade Rd in Vegas a few times. I've never really been impressed. Simply hit it more than once out of sake of convenience. The burger was nothing special, the buns were over grilled, and I wasn't a fan of the fries at all. Took me 15 minutes to get my food too when there were only 3 people ahead of me.

Maybe I'm just spoiled having lived in the midwest and having a big juicy 1/2 pound burger readily available at many small mom & pop diners and bars fresh from the cow that morning.

For me, the best burgers fast food wise are the double $6.00 western bacon cheeseburgers from Carl's Juniors. Holy lord those are heavenly.

Put the crack pipe down. There is no freakin' way the In & Out should be mentioned in the same sentence as that greasy burger place you mentioned.

In & Out uses all fresh ingredients and cooks your food after you order. Nothing sits under a heat lamp and did I mention the fresh ingredients? Best fast food burger evar IMHO.

Mmm, double double with grilled onions...ahhh.

BTW-Their shakes are awesome.

Ok, first let's get some confusion out of the way. Some people are comparing In-n-out to regular restaurant burgers. In-n-out is a fast food chain. You pay $4 for a double double and fries. At a regular restaurant you pay $10 for a burger and fries. In-n-out is good for the price range.

You need to compare similar products. In this case, you look at the burgers in the In-n-out price range, which includes mostly fast food restaurants. Now if you prefer one fast food chain over In-n-out, then ok, point taken. But if you went into In-n-out thinking that a $2.50 double double made in 5 min is going to taste better than the $30 burger that you waited 20 minutes for at that really expensive restaurant, then you're just setting yourself up for disappointment.

It's like someone saying his family car was rated car of the year, and you come back with "That's not the car of the year! Why, when I drove my friend's Lotus Elise...."

Tommy's... better than In-n-out?! NO!!!!! I live 10 min away from a Tommy's, and I've had no urges whatsoever to go back again. The only thing I noticed about Tommy's is that they pump out burgers in like 20 seconds. I remember I ordered my burger, turned around to talk to my friend, and boom, my order was up.

We never found one and thankfully didn't get killed.

You're lucky.

Yeah, that's what I hear. I posted about it here when it happened a few years ago only to find that some people drive completely out of their way to go around inglewood in the middle of the day, to say nothing for night.

When I lived in Oregon, there was a "Hot and Now" - just a walk up window and a parking lot. A burger was 39 cents, fries were like 59 cents. They got your order made up fast, and it was really inexpensive. But every single order we ever made was messed up - usually in their favor. So we learned quick to check everything to get the stuff they forgot to put in the bag.

Hey man... don't dis the Ultimate Cheeseburger or Jack's Spicy Chicken at Jack in the Box. I'm sorry to hear that the branches near you suck so much.

I thought Jack in the Box was shut down for spreading e-coli or something?

They were, and they hired someone to fix it all up. Now they're leaders in food/health standards.

in and out is the worst fast food place around. the burgers are all weird and dry and the fries suck really badly. then it's expensive AND you have to wade through a crowd of ricers to place your order. no thanks!

We used to have some of those, but they shut down.

Hot and Now went out of business.

Two of their vacant, weird little buildings I've seen in the north park of Kansas City.

If I go to in and out, and just tell the worker "2x3 animal style" she'll know what I mean, perfectly?

In n' Out is great. Apparantly your taste buds must be dead, because there is a massive difference between McD's burgers and In n' Out burgers. You want to know why it took so long? More than likely they were grinding the f%$#ing meat to make your burger. In n' Out is the only chain I know of that makes their own ground beef. In the restaurants that do it you can usually watch them make it.

As far as menu items go, yeah, not a lot on the menu. But there shouldn't be a lot on the menu. They make burgers, fries, onion rings and shakes, and they do it well because they focus everything on that. That's why they're called In n' out Burger. And think about it: 50% of the menu items at BK are just burgers with different stuff on 'em. You can ask for different things on your burger -- there's a whole list of not-on-the-menu orders you can make -- and get it pretty much how you want it.

In n' Out is packed for a reason: it's good. If you didn't like your burger try ordering it with different things on it next time, or go to a different location. But if you somehow get the idea that it's just a dressed-up McD's or BK you've got to be high.
