Mine came with the reset switches broken and the pieces in the bag. I figured I wouldnt use them that much, and my ASUS A8N SLI had just got back from a RMA I didn't feel like returning another.

I got mine from ZZF.

Congrats, you are #11. I almost decided to use my board too, but I thought "WTF, I just shelled out $$ for a NEW board, not a broken one."

I doubt it was flawlessly packed...the audio module COULD have damaged the board very easily. The board may have been flawless (luckily) but the packaging was not.

The one I received from Newegg was in good condition. The audio module was packed completely seperately from the board and never came in contact with it.

And I'm number #12. Congrat to myself :D. I'd like to thank NewEgg for this wonderful number.

I didn't even open any of the bags, just the box itself. I saw the buttons floating around and immediatly sent the board back. Now I have a full brand new PC (processor, monitor, keyboard, floppy drive, everything) sitting around doing nothing just because I'm missing a motherboard :brokenheart:

Sorry to hear that...not Neweggs fault though. This happens at DFI. Havent gotten a response from them. See my new problem below too...you'll love this!!!

OK, now I'm pissed off.

I got my "new" board from Monarch today. I'm almost positive it is a refurbished or repackaged board from Monarch. Two reasons for believing this:

1. The only thing in the box was the motherboard and the audio module. There were no manuals, no driver disks, no sata OR IDE cables, no backplate, no screws NOTHING!

2. The audio module had been handled before. There are fingerprints all over it and some kind of gunk near the jacks.

3. I can't prove it anymore, but I'm pretty sure the antistatic bag around the mobo had been opened before. It came open really easily.

I'm ready to go Intel after this fiasco!!! Last time I buy from Monarch.

This makes me sound like a chronic whiner or complainer, but I have NEVER had any problems before with ANY online etailer or peice of hardware...always felt bad for ppls that did. Guess I was due...

Finally I'm getting somewhere, thanks in whole to Monarch Computers. I got a call today from one of their managers. They will accept shipping charges for both of the motherboards I have AND will have a new one (tested) delivered to me on Saturday!

HUGE KUDOS to this company for responding like professionals to a customer's dissatisfaction. I want to stress that the problem with the first board was NOT Monarch's fault, but they are treating it as their problem, which is what a great company would do. They will have to deal directly with the manufacturer about the poor packaging the manufacturer has.

I expect to get my new board tomorrow, then (God willing), I will finally be able to build my PC.

Still haven't heard from DFI about any steps they plan to take to make the packaging problems right. Unfortunately, the damage is reflecting poorly on the resellers like Monarch, Newegg, ZZF and others.

By the way, I got a response from Monarch once I posted my dissatisfaction with them on Resellerratings.com. This service is awesome. Kind of a Better Business Bureau for online etailing. I beat them up pretty good in my post there, they saw that and took the proper steps to make it right. I edited my post at Reseller, so as long as I get my board tomorrow , i am happy (finally).

I'm not so sure because I think that Newegg (and the others) must be aware of the issue by now and they can take steps to fix the problem (like taking the audio module off the DFI packaging when shipping).
So while most of the blame goes to DFI, the resellers now share a bit of responsability. Shipping a product that they know is likely to arrive broken is a bit irresponsible (cost money to both resellers and customers and damage resellers' reputation).
I will still buy from Newegg in the future, but I sure hope they are going to be careful when shipping the replacement because that would be a black mark on them.

Well the black eye has to go to ALL etailers then. I don't think anyone was aware of this problem until I started posting on these forums. Only found one mention of similar damage prior to posting my observations (from Tyson95 on this forum). Give them a break, if they just found out about it (and maybe not all of them have yet, if DFI hasn't notified them), it will take a few days to change their shipping methods.

No, only the retailers that are aware of the issue.

No mention was done about the problem before your post because it's only customers who starts that kind of threads, and customers don't have the statistics to realize that there is a problem, they have to be curious like you. A big resellers like Newegg should be aware of it pretty quickly. I know that the DFI nf4 is new but it seems to sell like fresh baked bread.

I didn't say that I blamed Newegg just yet. Only that I will if I get another broken board. In the support ticket for the replacement, I mentioned this thread. So now I consider them aware of the issue and I expect them to be careful.

It didn't seem to be a shipping problem, the boxes looked like they were in OK shape. When I was repacking the motherboard for shipping to Monarch, I noticed that the Karajan Audio module hung down onto the motherboard from above, EXACTLY where my motherboard was damaged. There was no cushion between the module and the motherboard. I have met 2 other people just today who have the EXACT same damage as this when they received their mobo, one from ZZF and one from NEWEGG.

I think this is a packing problem that DFI should address. I intend to get a replacement board, but I do not intend to pay for shipping back to Monarch. It's the principle of the thing!

Please post here and PM me if you had damage to your DFI motherboard around the area where the EZ Touch switches are (they are the two little plastic switches on the motherboard near the board battery and "northbridge" fan. Doesn't matter how slight the damage is, Just let me know!

Angry_Games at DFI-Street.com has asked that anyone with damage to their Ultra-D similar to what is described above email him at Angry@dfi-Street.com. Just describe the damage and/or send a photo if you have it. If you are getting a new mobo, try to check for the damage PRIOR to opening the static bag. It should be pretty obvious. Look directly under where the audio module is packed. If you have already opened the mobo and have the damage, don't worry about it, just reply. Something is happening now.

So anybody heard if this packaging issue has this been resolved? It would be nice to know if all the etailers have been notified and are now taking action to correct this possible packaging flaw.

I was going to order the Ultra-D from the newegg tomorrow, until I stumbled across this thread. Now I don't know if it's worth taking the risk (albeit rather small) until I know for sure this issue has been fixed.

When you order on Newegg, you can leave special instructions IIRC. You probably can use that to tell them to ship the audio module outside the DFI box.

Dunno, it might be fine. But did you pay for a broken board? Do you want to chance it? Email DFI (see post above).
