Yesterday I received my new Ultra-D from Monarch computers. One of the two EZ switches was broken on the motherboard. It didn't seem to be a shipping problem, the boxes looked like they were in OK shape. When I was repacking the motherboard for shipping to Monarch, I noticed that the Karajan Audio module hung down onto the motherboard from above, EXACTLY where my motherboard was damaged. There was no cushion between the module and the motherboard. I have met 2 other people just today who have the EXACT same damage as this when they received their mobo, one from ZZF and one from NEWEGG.

I think this is a packing problem that DFI should address. I intend to get a replacement board, but I do not intend to pay for shipping back to Monarch. It's the principle of the thing!

Please post here and PM me if you had damage to your DFI motherboard around the area where the EZ Touch switches are (they are the two little plastic switches on the motherboard near the board battery and "northbridge" fan. Doesn't matter how slight the damage is, Just let me know!

The problem alot of people had with this board is the capacitor right next to the 12v 4-pin connector. If you had a modded psu, or a X-connect or something and the wires on the psu were thicker than norm, it would bend the capacitor, and it would cause major instability or worse, you wouldnt be able to boot up at all. I have helped almost a dozen people with this problem and all had no idea at all that thats what happened. So, be carefull of that as well. As to your question, my board was fine.

You mean its gone right?

Harbin's damaged board brings the total to 4 that I know of. This is the first day I have asked...I already knew about Assassins.

well, the pins are right next to the switches, so I imagine it's the same cause.

2 from newegg, 2 from Monarch, 2 from zzf so far.

No problems from ZZF.. But the audio module should not have been mounted at all. It comes in a sm box , that you are supposed to install.
I found the audio module a little tight to install. If yours was pre-installed, then I'd think it was a rma'd mobo & the prev. user broke it...

Return the mobo, because it should not be like that..

Jose

No no no, the audio module was not installed, it is suspended over the motherboard in a piece of cardboard. The module extends through the cardboard over the top of the board right where the switches are. Because it hangs SO CLOSE to the board, components are being damaged as the board shifts in the box or from compression from outside the box.

Ohhhhhh....... ;)

Still nothing should be bent .. Mine was perfect, the only thing I did was to remove the NF4 chipset fan and apply Artic Silver & lap the bottom of the fan heatsink..

Jose

I also had no problems from ZZF. But I do recall reading about others having damaged boards due to shipping. Might be onto something.

I don't think this one can be blamed on Fed Ex. The box it was shipped in was in perfect shape, as was the DFI box. I believe this is a packaging issue on DFI's part.

Definately not a shipping issue. Sounds like Mxracers box was in good condition, mine was and Tyson95 said the same thing. If it was shipping, the damage would not ALWAYS be concentrated in the same corner of the motherboard.

I haven't heard back from DFI yet. Hopefully tomorrow. If you can wait, I think we will win the day, er week...

I'm still hopeful for hearing from others with the same damage...

I ordered my Ultra-D from newegg.

Everything was fine except the floppy controller. No floppy drive/disk/cable combo seemed to work...
Sent back to RMA (i had to pay shipping :|)

No word yet from DFI. Another person with the same damage posted on the DFI-Street forum. Total of 10 now in less than a week. Damage is concentrated on a 2 square inch area of the mobo.

Got my board yesterday, no damage, I did set the cpu and memory video card and HSF, I used my 20pin PSU to power it up no problems.
