They have crossed the threshold now on the Vote. So there are already enough Votes for impeachment, but it was a forgone conclusion in the House. 231 and 10 Republicans so far.

Regardless, the house just impeached Donald Trump for a second time and now it appears the inauguration may need to be altered into a secure location. Several in congress are now saying they are worried about attending the event with their families as an educational experience or attending at all.

Impeachment makes no difference to that at all. The armed psychos real ire will be Joe Biden as president. Trump being impeached has ZERO impact on that.

With just 10 Republicans supporting Impeachment, this is the most bipartisan Presidential Impeachment in history.

Based on House vote does not appear Senate voting to remove him will happen.

While you're correct that it's not likely, do compare and contrast the vote totals in the House and Senate for certifying the presidential election. (e.g. the vote on the objection to the PA votes failed 138/282 in the House and 7/92 in the Senate. There are simply more nutjobs in the House.)

House members tend to be more afraid of being primaried by someone even nuttier than they are. Its the problem with so many very safe districts due to gerrymandering. The biggest threat to your seat in the house is from the base of the party.

Lets hope the Senate prevents him from running in 2024. Although what happens when he leaves office might do that also.

Wouldn't have no matter what since the trial will be after he's out of office. What the GOP can do is use it as a lever to wedge him out of the party and removed from the next 4 years of campaigning.

Plus it looks like Mitch wants it done.

Yeah, I'm *all* for having his eligibility for office stripped for good and sufficient reason, but even if the Senate trial fizzles out - he'll hopefully be facing jail time or have fled the country.

It matters because the obvious goal here is to permanently bar him from holding federal office. The secondary goal was to get his term to end ASAP, but everybody knew that was at best a longshot.

Now that's a thought worth ruminating over. Four years of Trump doing what he does best: making things harder and harder for the minority Repubs in Congress to get things done their collective lock step way, which is the old preferred way rather than Trump's way, which is his way or no way. You know, sort'a like McConnell's way just a whole lot stupider and humiliating.

If the articles are there the Senate can vote for him never being able to hold public office again.
This needs only a simple majority.

"The Senate may subsequently vote on whether the impeached official shall be disqualified from again holding an office of public trust under the United States.201If this option is pursued, a simple majority vote is required.202 "

So now that he is impeached some Constitutional Scholars believe that Trump cannot pardon anyone involved with this. Since Moscow Mitch won't allow an expedient trial his pardon power expires in a week.

I'm catching bits and pieces of speakers in the background.
It appears to be the running themes of Republicans are
WhataboutAntifa? WhataboutThaBlacks? YouCantAcceptThe2016Election!!!

I'm guessing that as soon as this quiets down, they are going to be complaining about why no one is investigating Hunter Biden and that investigations into Republican involvement in the form of a sitting congressmen and senators providing material support to those that trying to take the capital is political theater or or something.

That and Foxnew has posted lots of glowing yelp reviews of Trump's wall

You forgot “Hunter’s laptop” and “Biden crime family”. I shit you not. Gaetz brought it up.
