Dude, I served this country, and took an oath to protect this country over 30 years ago. I earned my right to call the people of this nation stupid, specially when 75 Million of them voted AGAIN for Trump. I didn't say everyone was stupid, I just said don't under estimate the stupidity of the people of this nation. It's been on display for the last 4 years, more so the last 2 months, and Trump took advantage of that stupidity. And yes, pardon's are only at the Federal level, but DC is all federal. This means that all charges related to what took place on the 6th, will be at the federal level. There are no state level charges other than Misdemeanors and traffic violations that are prosecuted by the Attorney General of the District of Columbia. All other's are federal. Now, there are other states such as NY that will be going after Trump at the state level when he is out of office. There is no way he can stop those charges. Only a governor can pardon him for state level crimes within that state.

It's not about "screwing the other side early." It's about doing what the constitution requires. You don't just handwave away sworn duties because it appears inconvenient in the near term. And from what I read, POTUS under impeachment-so, while Congress has voted and process of evidence gathering begins, which will effectively begin on Monday at the latest, I believe--handcuffs him. He can't issue pardons, for one. IT strips him of important powers that, as you know the cornered rat that he is, would abuse to fullest extent, damning all consequences and putting this country in further peril.

I would like our team to focus on what WE need most immediately. I hope that Trump is held accountable. He has been a disaster. Damage has been done that might NEVER be fixed. There are more immediate needs that punishing him and it's like you can't look past your need for revenge.

Impeaching Trump is NOT going to take away from anything, because the Democratic party (Mommy in your horrible anecdote) is NOT one person that can only do one thing at a time.

The party and staffers, can work simultaneously, some on impeaching Trump, and some on getting policy change ready for when they do take office. They have the spare people to handle this "overload".

This is almost certainly going be the fastest track impeachment on record, so it will also take very little calendar time.

He’ll Be impeached in the House by Tuesday, that’s before Biden even takes office. The Senate will wait until after the 20th ONLY because of Mitch. Impeaching him is necessary to prevent him from running again and to send a message to those like him.
