I heard some guy at work ranting about how immigrants don't have to pay taxes. I kept my mouth shut but there was an Asian chick there who basically told him to STFU and that they DO have to pay taxes. Then the guy fires back that the only reason she does is because she was born here....


ugggh....stupid people annoy me. I really wished I could have jumped in and owned that guy, but it wouldn't have helped anything. He was extremely close minded and arguing with someone like that at work is never a good idea.

I never heard this either, and I don't see why it would really matter. What matters is the millions of illegals NOT being taxed on anything.

And the millions of Americans not only not paying taxes, but mooching off tax dollars the majority of their lives.

Legal immigrants did not have to pay federal income tax for the first 7 years they were here. I've worked with several people over the years that were in that situation. One was from Korea and the other from Hungary. They were crying like babies when the clock ran out. Didn't feel it was right or fair, etc.

I don't know when the policy was implemented, or if or when it was rescinded. It may very well be still in force.

This was for legal immigrants. The idea behind it was to give them a boost in the new land they lived in.

I have known several white individuals in the past that have collected unemployment and done construction jobs under the table and made a shit load of money doing it, so why does whitey feel he should have an exclusive market on screwing uncle sam?

Legal immigrants like people who are on H-1B, J1 visas, or on Green Card have to pay Federal and State taxes.

They also pay Social Security and Medicare.

I'll accept that I was wrong. This was back in the early eighties. I worked closely with the guy from Hungary. He may have just been blowing smoke up our asses. He sounded very sincere when he was bellyaching about income tax kicking in. Whatever.

depends on if they are using fake/stolen social security numbers. if they use a stolen SS# then their employer pays payroll taxes on them and they have income tax withheld. they probably don't file to get a refund of income taxes
if they work under the table/off the books without a SS# , then they don't pay any payroll or income taxes

they do of course pay sales taxes

property taxes would depend, if they rent , then they pay property tax indirectly through rent. if they have bought real estate with an illegal/stolen SS# , then they pay property taxes directly through mortgage escrow or directly to the county govt

Only if they're able to find someone who will pay them under the table (i.e. knowing they're an illegal immigrant). If they have to use fake documentation to get a job, they do pay taxes.

due to more frugality on their part they probably pay less in sales taxes than americans in similar circumstances (more of an indictment of americans than a fault of the illegals). property taxes are often lower because more people cram in to one place than natives would.

Yeah, if you think for one second that the IRS would give anybody a grace period on income tax, you have no clue. They are going to squeeze every red cent they can from anyone they can track. Legal immigrants included.

Now illegal aliens don't pay income tax if they're working off the books. They also probably won't get minimum wage either. They still have to pay sales tax when they buy shit though. And tax when they register their cars. So they're still chipping in.

If you're working legally the first thing you will need is a SSN or a taxpayer ID when you fill your paperwork for a job. If you're a legal immigrant you should have a SSN; if you're in the US on a visitor or short-term student visa you get a taxpayer ID. If you don't qualify for exempt withholding then your paycheck will have the properly calculated taxes taken out of it.

Now if you're a student or a nonresident who's working legally you may or may not have to pay social securities.
