This is absolutely disgusting. A sex-addicted bastard takes advantage of a "servant" and attacks her and you guys are trying to lambaste the victim.

What the fuck is wrong with you guys?

Nobody's trying to lambaste the victim, merely pointing out that (at least from the reportage) she did not make good decisions.

Also, we don't have "servants"; she's an employee, just like the manager.

Just heard a news report that says there is a positive DNA match between "material found on the maid" and Strauss-Kahn. I'd say the significance of this depends on what the "material" is.

Strauss-Kahn's lawyers clearly need to talk with Kobe's lawyers.

Defense now shifts to consensual sex.

Is anyone else but me thinking that this story could lead to a Kobe Bryant conclusion?
Quite possibly, except that I think Kobe Bryant probably treated his victim exactly how he thought she wanted to be treated. If I had to guess, I'd guess Kobe Bryant thinks he really did not rape his victim, whereas Strauss-Kahn probably just thinks she should consider herself lucky. Also, basketball fans were actively threatening Bryant's victim. Anyone really think IMF fans will credibly do so?

I'm guessing a massive attempt to buy her off. If she changes her story and claims it was consensual, no way can they get a conviction. For a few million he can return to France as the victim of an Obama-Sarkozy conspiracy and probably win the Presidency.

Yep samething Kobe did.
First it was nope nothing happened, then once they see that will not work they try the she wanted it and did not fight.
And as someone else pointed out, watch this end like Kobe where the woman drops everything and will not help and all of a sudden gets a lot of money.

Lucky for her this is not France or she would. just as if Kobe did this in France he would probable not have had as much fans behind him.

I could see this happening. I'm sure DSK would be willing to shell out a few million to get rid of this. And could you blame the woman for taking the money and changing her story? If I were her I sure as hell would. A few million dollars for 20 minutes of rough sex? Deal.

I agree - that's what I meant by a "Kobe Bryant conclusion". A single mother is given a choice:

(A) $2 million in the bank and Strauss-Kahn walks, or

(B) Nothing in the bank, you get your personal story dragged through the media, and maybe Strauss-Kahn gets off anyway.

Would this really be a difficult decision for the alleged victim?

Yeah, since this guy DSK looks to be guilty and in big trouble I'd expect him and his lawyers to at least attempt the 'Kobe' thing.

But the facts in this case appear to be materially different than the Kobe case. I'm wondering if the alleged vistim can't get both - his conviction and a civil suit taking a big chunk of his money.

I'd guess if this guy was found guilty in a criminal trial, the civil suit would be a slam dunk.

I heard DSK is facing a maximum of 65 yrs in state prison. If the alleged victim would accept a payoff it should be a helluva lot more than a couple millions $'s.

There are no IMF fans. We don't even know who the accuser is... although supposedly French media released her name?

My friend and I talked about the Kobe case. My friend said there is no way the chick would say no to Kobe Bryant. Not that I agree with him but, Kobe is much better known than the president of IMF...

Agreed. Strauss-Kahn has put up a million cash plus a $5 million bond, so I'd say three or four million now while he still has a shot at being president of France, together with a solid nondisclosure agreement, would please both parties. Three million tax free, invested in tax-free muni's, should generate more income than a maid earns after taxes, even in a swanky NYC hotel, without touching the principle.

There are other complainants/victims also that can be used in charges against him.

This seems to be the tip of the iceberg

Agreed. I worked with a black guy who insisted it was consensual. Personally I think she went there to get screwed, but she wanted to be seduced. Instead, she got treated with the respect Kobe has for all basketball groupies and in the process, torn up. From his standpoint, she came there to be screwed by a celebrity, she got screwed by a celebrity, what's the problem?

Strauss-Kahn's accuser has a much stronger case though; she went there to clean a room which should have been vacated.

I think so too.

IIRC, the woman in Kobe's case was a concierge who willing went to his room after after being invited.

Now, it is said DSK twice invited female concierges to his room for wine etc only to be turned down.

Unlike in the Kobe case, this woman did not go to the room unpon invitation, nor did she even know he was in the room when she entered.

Reports I've seen have stated the following:

1. DSK was supposed to have checked out earlier. He left no "late check out' indication with the the front desk. So, he was thought to be gone.

2. Another hotel employee checked the room to make sure no one was there before the cleaning crew arrived. It is implied that DSK hid his presence.

3. The woman followed standard hotel proceedures and knocked, and announced her presence, several times before entering to ensure she didn't inconvenience a guest. DSK did not respond (but he may not have heard her if in the shower).

This case, so far at least, seems significantly different form the Kobe case.

I've noticed the "setup claims" have all but disappeared.

This may all be true, but it just gives the accuser more leverage in getting big bucks from Strauss-Kahn. I doubt the authorities can get a conviction without her being a willing witness in court, so the strength of forensic and outside evidence is probably irrelevant. The fact that other women are now making accusations probably isn't actionable without physical evidence.

Could the authorities go after the accuser on an obstruction of justice charge? Possibly; but I assume that a high-class legal team could advise her on how to "revise" her story to avoid prosecution.

This. Conviction AND lawsuit is worth a hell of a lot more than just getting bought off. Plus justice is served. Only thing that makes me see red is women/children abusers. This dude will have fun in the pen.

Anyone else think it looks a little obvious he was set up?

Why would someone with so much money and power attempt to rape a 32 yr. old maid?

Sounds like someone is looking to stain his image, they say he was a contender in the next French presidential elections.

-Maid comes onto him
-Things move along, becoming sexual
-Maid snaps and runs screaming rape
-Image ruined, mission accomplished.

Agreed!
