Looks like his defense is preparing to claim this was a concensual sex act. So first he denies the whole thing and claims to have been elsewhere? Now he's gonna admit to it but claim it was consensual?

I'm not prepared to say he's automatically guilty but talk of a 'set-up' consiracy is starting to look like weak sauce.

According to the article the woman didn't even know who he was until well after she reported the crime. If so, that completely discredits the 'set-up' theory.

If there is a conspiracy, it has to be damn big and include the police, the DA and the judge. I have trouble believing the police would rush out and arrest this powerful guy off an airplane without any evidence whatsoever. Seems in past cases of a mere 'she said, he said' they usually speak to various people before rushing some guy straight to Riker's Island prison.

I also can't imagine a judge refusing bail etc if there wasn't some sort of evidence incriminating him. You can't have a valid fear of a guy fleeing the usa (his job too) if there's no evidence/chance he's guilty.

You miss the point werepossum, many of us spend more time on P&N than it viewing actual news sources. For what it is worth, the maids lawyer has made a recent statement, but why bother to repeat it when it contains nothing definitive.

For what its worth as I listened to network nightly news, NYC police claim genetic evidence confirm the accused had some sort of sexual encounter with the maid, but that fails to answers question regarding if the encounter for consensual or non consensual.

But its at least a start, if the networks news link is basically true. They also claim the accused is on suicide watch.

tax payers of member nations fund the IMF (US is a big part of that).

IMF head honchos say at $3000 / night hotels and live high on the hog.

What a bunch of crap.

The IMF wasn't paying for his room. The guy earns like $500k/year without having to pay taxes and is also married to a millionaire.

sounds like a scene out of a movie:

-virtual isolation in Rikers Island? lol

-The employee ran to the front desk. Hotel staff alerted the New York Police Department. By the time officers arrived, Strauss-Kahn had left, leaving his cell phone behind at the hotel, according to Browne.

So let me get this straight. he was able to go from naked to dressed in suit and packed and in a limo before the police arrived? no one tried to stop him?

-Two plainclothes Port Authority police detectives boarded the aircraft "just before the door closed". wow, just like teh movies

From different news sources i've seen that there was his semen and her blood on his bed. She went to coworkers first, then management, then the police. When the police checked his room he'd already left leaving some items including his cell phone behind. The police called the airport, found he was boarding on a flight to France. The police had the plane delayed until they could come and pick him up. Just how accurate is all this information from different media sources ? Your guess is as good as mine, but i'm leaning towards it's accuracy.

She took the money, then called the cops when she thought it wasn't real money.
Not really her fault, she'd never seen foreign bills before.

Yeah, I was just being snarky. Here's some more info.
http://abcnews.go.com/US/dominque-s...inconsolable-alleged-attack/story?id=13621783
Strauss-Kahn, 62, was arraigned Monday. He is accused of forcing the housekeeper to perform oral sex and submit to anal sex after he emerged naked from his suite's bathroom at the Sofitel Hotel in New York City. The married father of four is accused of sexual assault and attempted rape.
She's also described as a "good Muslim", which greatly increases his chances of being attacked in religious retaliation should he ever return to France and greatly reduces the chances that people will believe this was consensual. Couple this with blood and semen at the scene, the likely HIV positive status of the presumed victim, and his changing story, and it looks like the former head of the IMF has let the former little head of the IMF get him into more trouble than he can buy his way out of. Of course, none of that is actual hard evidence - it's hearsay, and even the story I read at first attributed this statement to the victim's brother rather than a friend - but I'd say that at this point French Socialists are in serious disarray.

One tiny bright spot for Strauss-Kahn: If his alleged victim truly is HIV positive, that might keep him from having his taste for oral sex and sodomy indulged rather more than he might wish during his prison stay.

I was thinking that he would be attacked by the French far-right for having sex with a black woman.

New developments - Strauss-Kahn has been granted bail. He has to post $1 million bail AND take out a $5 million insurance bond AND remain under house arrest, with armed guards, in an apartment his wife will rent. Dang!
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110519/ap_on_re_us/imf_leader_assault

"The proof against him is substantial. It is continuing to grow every day as the investigation continues," Assistant District Attorney John "Artie" McConnell told the judge. "We have a man who, by his own conduct in this case, has shown a propensity for impulsive criminal conduct."

Oddly enough, the story is changing yet again. This says he forced her to perform oral sex and tried to remove her stockings. Previous stories have stated first that he tried to rape her and later that he forced her to perform oral sex twice and anally raped her. Our reportage is a joke in this country. This makes me wonder if the changes in his story might not also be due to piss-poor reportage.

Why don't women just Bobbit that pecker when "forced to perform oral sex" rip his balls off too? Anyway sounds like a real piece of work.

Update with additional info (or speculation, as may be):
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/05/2...-you-know-who-i-am-during-alleged-sex-attack/

Some points come to mind:
(1) Saying "Don't you know who I am?" probably won't persuade your victim to your way of thinking so much as let her know who you are when she tells the police.

(2) If confronted by a hotel guest who wants to rape you, informing him that you need your job and any conflict will a hotel guest will cause you to lose it is NOT a smart move.

(3) Covering your eyes to avoid seeing a naked man can leave your breasts free to be grabbed, so it's best to adopt a stance with forearms together over them.

(4) When attempting to avoid a rape, "my manager is in the hallway" is a distant second to a hard knee to the nads.

(5) In America, a $3,000/night Junior Presidential hotel suite does not come with free nookie. (Who knew?) Presumably, one must upgrade to the full Presidential hotel suite for the privilege of molesting the help.

(3) Covering your eyes to avoid seeing a naked man can leave your breasts free to be grabbed, so it's best to adopt a stance with forearms together over them.

Assuming her story is true, I hate to blame the victim but it sure seems like she wasn't too smart. You see a naked guy, you turn around and immediately leave the room. You don't stand there with your eyes covered while he proceeds to fondle you.

And I still don't understand how a woman is 'forced' to perform oral sex without any weapon. You would think jaws and teeth would be a pretty powerful deterrent to that.
