you question 'chasing amy' but not 'armageddon', 'the rock' or the rumored upcoming 'dazed and confused'? its funny though, because i own all of those dvds i just said and have the criterions of 'the rock' and 'chasing amy'.

All 50... I am a big movie guy, though.

EDIT: Oops, make that 49. I haven't heard of "C'era una volta il West"

Just from the name, you should know that that's Sergio Leone's "Once Upon a Time in the West", essentially half of what defined the "Spaghetti Western".

edit: sorry, wrote that a bit fast.

18... how did all three LOTR films make the top 50 movies of ALL TIME??
I would think Sound of Music, Gone with the Wind, and other classics would've made the list.

1 & 2 should be switched, more votes for Shawshank..
i guess because their score is identical and it goes alphabetical. but i think 'godfather' should be #1 anyways, since 'shawshank' is more recent and is more memorable whereas 'the godfather' wont connect with a younger crowd (i have friends who wont watch a movie if it was shot before 1980)

Check the site and see how this list is created. It's a popularity contest of user votes. Not a critic's list.

Well I wasn't making a comprehensive list of movies that shouldn't be in the Criterion Collection. 😉 I do have to admit though that I do own Chasing Amy (along with the rest of the View Askewniverse movies). I just don't get it... if they were trying to recognize the entire series, they could have picked a better movie out of the 5. Was it because it dealt with gay/lesbian themes? I doubt it. I can't figure it out.

Seven Samurai was long, boring at times, but worth watching. 12 Angry Men is one of my favorite movies of all time. Absolutely worth watching. Amelie is a great movie in many ways. The Third Man is worth watching.

I own 17 out of the 50.

It goes by rating by many youngsters that why classics such as Ben Hur, Sound of Music, Gone with the Wind, Bridge on the River Kwai, etc... didn't make the list.

All but Sound of Music are on the top 250 at least...

i think it is one because at the time it was the more serious of the kevin smith movies. its all good though, a lot of good features on it and kevin has released special editions of all of his movies (with the exception of 'jersey girl', i want those deleted scenes dammit!).
