my wife and I were on the couch watching TV and from that spot we can see down the hall way to the kids room. the hallway ends in a "T" and there is a bedroom on each side. well my wife and I saw a dark figure run from the left bedroom to the right bedroom. thinking it was one of the kids messing with each other we get up and go in there. nothing, both kids are sound asleep and its that deep sleep where any parent knows they arent faking it.

My sense of denial is so strong my mind can repress things seconds after they happen. It's allowed me to live through some strange things that should have done mental damage.

Just pretend it didn't happen and your mind will do the rest.

time to bust out the dual deagles, and turn those rooms into swiss cheese... not hitting the kids of course :)

Old house?

no, built in 1997 and we are the first owners.

Indian burial ground?
Had incidents in your old home?
Grandma passed away?
Nosey neighbors?
Neighborhood cat/possum?
Is there a window in one of the bedrooms with a curtain or tree casting a shadow?

Sorry.

as I said, it's repressed.

Every once in awhile it comes up like my mind wants to toss cookies, but I mentally push it back down.

One day it's gonna all come out and it's gonna suck. But right now I have turned my mind's ability to repress things into a talent for getting through the business world quite well.

Your perception of yourself stays high when you only hear what you want to hear and repress the things you do not want to hear.

Wait so both bedrooms are children's bedrooms? And both bedrooms had children in them?

I'd say the kids are up to shenanigans. I was pretty good at faking sleep when I was little. You just have to make sporadic and faint snoring noises, make slight mid-sleep body movements, and breathe slowly and gently.

If there is a light nearby probably just a small critter was close to the light and crossed the path...

In all seriousness, I'm guessing its one of two things:

a) Your kids are awake and were horsing around, and pulled the wool over your eyes when you checked on them. Most people think they can spot a fake / a liar. Policemen & judges are particularly notorious for this. Studies have shown most people, including those in the aforementioned fields, can't - the only group who showed any proficiency in this was... professional poker players :)

b) You moved your foot or something, and the lamp behind you projected the shadow making it look larger. Maybe your sock is wrinkled in such a way as to resemble a humanoid form. Maybe you're watching the X-Files, Halloween, etc. or have a half-read Stephen King book nearby and are mentally predisposed to seeing / believing the paranormal.
