So normally I would let crappy customer service go but this is just plain stupid when a company won't change outdated policies. So here's my story,
I purchased a video card last week at the Fry's in Fremont, CA and used it as a stopgap until my order from newegg arrives. Today I try to return the video card, but I decided to go to the Santa Clara Fry's since it was closer to where I was. I ended up paying 8.75% tax at the Fremont Fry's, but when I tried to return it in Santa Clara, I was only getting back 8.25%. Now I know it's not much of a difference, but being in the retail business I know that it's right to give a customer the exact amount he paid for an item.
After some arguing with the manager, he still refused to adjust my tax rate. I told him then that what if I proceeded to buy several high dollar items (say cpu processors) from Santa Clara and return them at Fremont, would I get the higher tax rate (and therefore make money) on the return. He was dumbfounded at that argument and could only say "yes if that's what you choose to do". Buahahah, lol. Yes he is stupid though then agian I think it may be of a "I dunno" type thing.
I don't know if he's the only dumb manager there or if he just didn't know policy, but I'm so tempted right now to buy like 10 AMD FX cpu's and return the same day. I know it's petty, but I can be a petty SOB when it comes to companies trying to screw over thier customer. I was thinking.. isn't there a Fry's in Oregon with no state tax? Hmm.. it would be quite profitable then if someone wanted to run a little operation to snake Fry's out of money.
Anyways.. I just needed a rant..
Cliff's
1. Bought VidCard w/ 8.75% tax rate
2. Fry's wanted to return w/ 8.25% rate
3. Argued I could make money off them
4. Dumbfounded manager
5. Profit???
Funny, didn't know frys had a policy like this.. Hm. Well I guess you found a little loop hole didn't you? If you care about the company, report it to them, otherwise just keep hush hush about it.. Sure what you'd be doing is immoral so if you care, tell the company, if you don't, then do what you'd normally have done..
I've found many "loop holes" like this many times in my life and you will learn quickly that if you point it out on anandtech, you'll be flamed and be called an "idiot", but because the majority on here fail to express what they truely mean, it only leaves the OP to be dumbfounded and results in a flamefest, much like the one in this thread. I believe the people responding with "idiot" are really trying to say is, "you douche"...
