Atheists as a group, generally have more education and higher IQ's than their religious counterparts.

I didn't have anything to correct, so decided it was open season on her beliefs... "So, God is punishing the people in New Orleans? Weren't there a lot of innocent people there too?" "Yeah, but..."
5 minutes later in the conversation, and giving her time to forget that she agreed...

"Suppose the U.S., after 9/11, decided to just nuke Iraq and Afghanistan as punishment for what the terrorists did. Don't you think that would have been a better idea than going to war and losing a lot of American lives?"
"No, because a lot of innocent people would have died."
"So, harming innocent people is bad?" "Well, of course."
"Well, a couple minutes ago, you said that God punished the people in New Orleans, and that God has a plan, and that innocent people did get in the way. Are you saying that your God is bad? I don't know about you, but I believe in a superior God, one who is powerful enough that he can take on the bad people, and leave the good people alone."

Atheism is not a religion, so let's drop that little retarded comment. No Atheist goes to Atheist church to chant how there is no God. Atheism is a belief, that is it. I would actually go as far as saying, Atheism is lack of a belief. I have no proof there is no God, but I'm not actively trying to prove there is no God. What I'm saying is, there is no proof of any God, (and for the Christians) especially not yours.

And as for the original topic:

He never said his tolerance was absolute. I'd say all tolerance has its limits.

I just negotiated a return to a company with some serious religious background to it, many family members are employees and many of those are ministers or active in the church. They have the grace to seperate it from work, and have no outward issue with my not sharing thier exact beliefs. I feel like I'm part of this family. If only it could be like this everywhere.

That must be a weak generality because me and my twin brother both have higher IQ. We have tutored many people at a higher grade level then our own.

As to where or not atheism is a faith. Of course it is. Just as evolution is. Christianity is based on faith. We cant physically prove there is a God enough to satisfy the agnostics and atheists. (We just generally believe it that it would be foolish to look at the world around us and believe it spontaneously formed) Similarly, atheism is a faith. There is no way to prove there is *not* a God. And just to complete what I said in the beginning, evolution is a faith because you cant scientifically recreate the beginning of life.

Trying to say any of this is fact is pointless.
