I don't know if we can call it a toxin since you have consume a lot of it to reach LD50.

What I know about caffeine is it puts pressure on the adrenal glands. Once caffeine is in our system, the body is reacting negatively to it. It's pushing it out of the body which causes the rush that we feel when we drink coffee, red bull, preworkouts or pop caffeine pills.

The adrenal glands actually shrink with heavy caffeine consumption.

Considering the fact that my 26-week old premature infant was given doses of caffeine on a daily basis for the purpose of helping/developing breathing.... I would say yeah, there is no doubt in my mind that there are likely benefits to caffeine if anything... Saying anything negative about caffeine as far as medicinal is just stupid as fuck.

Caffeine has plenty of good benefits as well. I do take it before working out. It blunts the pain from working out with heavy weights. It powers my workouts as well. I was talking about the negative effects caffeine has on our bodies when it's over done.

Didn't know that caffeine could be used for medicinal purposes other then keeping folks awake when they need to be.

While caffeine intoxication is a thing, you still have to consume quite a lot of the stuff to reach that level.

Been suckin it up for almost two years now ..... wouldn't be so bad if starbuks or peetes would keep a decent pot of decaf ready but they never do. Ur a coffee shop wtf m8 o_O

Because decaf is for quitters and they don't serve quitters

water is a toxin too, everyone who drinks it dies

Dihydrogen monoxide can kill you and its coming out of your faucets!

So what is up with with recent news reports on people who have died from consuming large amounts of caffeine over a long period of time? Granted they probably had poor eating habits and most likely some health issues that were a factor in this, but how much caffeine do you have to consume to die from it? I know it really high.

Could be a number of factors. First, caffeine makes me piss... like... insanely... like every 30 minutes. You gotta keep up fluid intake if you're going to be consuming caffeine all day.

But I have yet to see much for reports on this, so maybe you know more than me.

Just like any drug though, you will naturally grow tolerance - so you will have to consume more to gain the same effects. That's why I find it best to reset your tolerance every so often.

Every so often I hear or read about someone who dies from caffeine overdose either by using too many pills or over consuming energy drinks.

When I start becoming too dependant on coffee, I take a sleeping pill and basically force myself to sleep for 10 hours. That usually gets me back on track. A good sign for me on when I'm getting too dependant is when I need to get the "turbo shot" in my morning iced coffee more than 2 days in a row.

My local truck stop sells caffeinated 1" chocolate squares with something crazy like 150mg of caffeine in each one. Those are amazing.

I drink about 2L coffee/day. I don't notice any effects one way or the other aside from getting a screaming headache if I don't drink coffee at all, but that's a silly thing to do. A day without coffee is like a day without oxygen.

I always drinked hot chocolate and other similar beverages as I never really liked coffee though I always liked the smell. Tried double double etc and I just found it gross. When I started a shift work job, where I can go from having to be at work for 7pm on one day to being there for 7am on another, I decided to re-try coffee, especially for those 7am shifts. Eventually started drinking black. Now I drink it even at home when I'm off. It's kinda like smoking, do it not so much only for the substance, but for the habit. When I go on night shifts I don't really NEED coffee, but I still like drinking it, so I stop to Tim's on the way, and then throughout the night usually just brew keurig. I hate the waste that kcups produce so I started doing grounds more than Kcups. At home I have a drip machine and recently got a nice burr grinder. I actually prefer the coffee I make at home than Tim's now.

Caffeine is basically a drug. It's funny how some drugs are fully legal and unregulated, while some are legal but super regulated like alcohol, and then some can land you in jail for having a ridiculously small trace of it on you.

Heh... I like how Canadians are on a first name basis with their favorite coffee chain :)

Yeah, I get it... I tried Tim Horton's coffee the last time I went to Canada and it's pretty damn good.

Yeah, there is better coffee at gourmet places etc, but the biggest thing with Tim Horton's is they are everywhere. So it's convenient.

Supposedly we're getting a Starbucks here. I think it will have it's place and be kinda niche, but Tim's is still going to win over all I think due to number of locations. If Mcdonald's was smart they would actually do like Tim's with their McCafe brand, open up small McCafe shops everywhere throughout town. They would serve basically coffee and muffins and stuff of that nature. No burgers or other main food items. I think it would actually work. I imagine they have looked into it already though, I doubt I'm the first to have that idea.

Unless I'm traveling (work, vacation) I never understand the concept of paying ridiculous amounts for coffee ($3-5 for a cup). Always boggles my mind that people do that shit on a regular basis. How fucking retarded are you?

Don't get me wrong, I'll do a Starbucks on the odd-ball days where I need to wake up super early for an 8:00 AM doctor appointment when I have to head out at 6:30. Those are few and far - and are definitely exceptions. I'm strictly talking about retards that do this on a regular basis in the morning or for an afternoon pick-me-up all the time.

It would probably work better if they dropped the McCafe brand. The McDonalds name seems to have a negative connotation with urban hipsters who are willing to drop $5 on a fancy coffee.

I've had mccafe capuccino and it sucks. May have to do with the milk they use.

The water you use makes a big difference in the coffee's taste. I put a whole house charcoal filter under the kitchen sink in '92. Much better than strait city tap water. Try making coffee with distilled water. I've been drinking two pots a day for over 30 years.

Hmmm that's a good point, at home I just use tap water. I really want to look at getting an under sink water filter system though for drinking water, and I'd use it for coffee too.
