What all do you need for P90X? My friend is going to let me borrow his DVDs, but he doesn't have any equipment to lend me. I'm going to go out and get somethings (by that I mean order online somewhere). Thanks! :D

Some of the experts may be able to answer that better, but so far I've needed a mat, pull up bar, weights or bands, a chair. Yoga mat helps, maybe push up bar.

I did 2 rounds of P90x back in 2009. Best investment I ever made for my body. I am now sitting at the heaviest weight I have ever been at 277 lbs, versus 175lbs then. I couldn't tell you why I let myself go like this, but it shows up on my labs. Getting ready to push play in a few weeks.

Good luck! Keep us posted!

I started p90x for real last week. As opposed to just testing it out before the holidays. Kenpo is my favorite so far!! Having issues with my neck, especially after yoga, but other than that I'm loving it.

Does anyone know of any good neck strengthening exercises or stretches?

How are all the other p90x'ers doing??

Sadly, I've lost my motivation. Lots going on during the holidays and lots going on at work. I just don't seem to have time to eat right and exercise. I was down 5 pounds and I've put it back on.

I failed over the holidays too, as expected. I managed to get to the gym in my hometown once while I was there, and somehow I managed not to gain any weight even though I ate more than enough chocolate.

When I got home I got motivated and decided to kick start myself back into good eating and exercise habits. It's only been a week, but so far so good. I made fitness my first priority, so nothing else seems to be important enough to get in the way. The hardest part is combining keeping active and dating. I thought it would be easy, but most date invites I get so far involve a lot of sitting (movies, dinners, etc).

Hope you get your motivation back soon Jeff! It's worth it.

Is anyone else still doing p90x?

I finished phase 1 the day before my surgery and took a 6 day break between phase 1 and 2. I'm back at it, today will be day 37.

The hardest part was getting my momentum back up after the 6 day break. During the 6 days I was dying to do something to get my heart rate up, even though I was supposed to be resting, but when I finally got started again it was very hard to push myself as hard as I should. Especially during yoga. I'm bored to tears during yoga, and it takes so long. I'm going to start going to an actual yoga class with my friend that day instead, just to change things up (and to make sure my form is good).

Also, I'm starting to feel weird pains all over that hold me back a bit, especially when it's my knee that's sore. I don't know if that's normal exercise pains or if I'm doing something wrong.

My biggest complaint is 'friends' who, knowing my goals and knowing how motivated I am to reach them, try to sabotage my efforts with other temptations. The types of temptations I've removed myself from completely because I really suck at moderation. These friends say they are excited for me, proud of me, impressed by the results, but then they not only invite me, but try to convince me after I say no thank you, to go drinking, eating crap food or too much food, other sedentary activities, or the worst: playing video games, which is what got me so lazy to begin with!

TLDR
Mostly just venting and looking for motivation and support!

Cookie, what surgery and what have been your results from the start to now?

Laser eye surgery. 2 weeks ago. It's pretty much healed now, just a little blurry and double vision occasionally.

I did all the usual measurements at the beginning but I'm not sure what they are right now, just sure that none of my clothes fit anymore and I'm going to need a new belt soon. And I can see muscles in places I've never seen muscles on me before.

Weight wise I lost 8 pounds so far since starting p90x (6 weeks ago) but 42 pounds total since March.

I can do 3 chinups (almost 4), up from 1 before I started p90x.

Everything else I don't remember numbers, but I can do more pushups, more core exercises lift more weights more often, and with better form, and p90x warmups are fun, where in the beginning they were hard. I've been stretching my neck and shoulders a lot, so even they don't bother me much anymore, just my right knee is problematic now, and only occasionally.

Also, my endurance has improved dramatically. I started a C25k program 5 weeks ago too. The first couple weeks were easy, but even at week 3 or 4 running 5 min I was out of breath. Now I'm at week 6 and, still not 5k, but I feel like I'm making really great progress based on how well I'm doing each time I have to step it up a notch.

I'm on my 4th iteration of p90x. I do the classic schedule with a few days of doubles on the upper body work.

1st time I did it i lost 3 inches off my waist and gained 12 lbs muscle mass, body fat % at 4%.

p90x just plain works if you stick to it and eat healthy. i'm in the best shape of my life.

good stretching in the beginning, perform reps properly, stop if things really tweak weird. the more you build your shoulders and chest and core the easier it will be on your body overall

I got a 60 lb weight vest for Christmas because I needed a boost in intensity and boost it has! I put 20lbs in the vest for legs and back because my arms were fatiguing for the chinups by the last round. When I was using 40s for many of the leg routines, the arms got noodly at the end. So now I can use 30s and save my arms. I also like using it for the ab ripper and Insane cardio abs. Definition in the ab area is much more pronounced now. Likewise, my shoulders have started to show a good bit more definition using the vest while doing pushups, but it wears your ass out! In a good way, of course. Yoga X with an extra 20 strapped to you is probably the hardest because of all the pushups and downward dogs.

Peace

Finished p90x yesterday! :D

I'm going to do the last measurements and take the 'after' photos tonight when I get home, but I'm already impressed with the progress I notice like having more energy and feeling and seeing muscles I haven't seen before. I can do more pullups and pushups, I'm far more flexible, and I have much more endurance. Also, my neck and back are rarely sore like they used to be and this weekend I did my first headstand ever.

I still have work to do, and a small(er) layer of fat covering those new muscles, but pretty proud of how far I've gotten so far. Going to take a week off now before I figure out what I'm going to do next!

Congrats on finishing!

I'm looking to start p90x this weekend. Based on peoples experience, are these results a fair assessment of what to expect when completing the program? I've been working lifting weights and trying to gain bulk (am pretty lean right now), but p90x routines are so much more complete than I've been doing, including stretching, yoga, balance, cardio etc., which I've done little of.

First day of doing p90x and I had no idea this was so d@mn tough, lol.

I'm not one to cheat, but could barely do pushups on my knees by the end. And the pullups...wow that was sad. Anyone who's not already hardcore should be very proud of finishing this.

I hope to...we'll see.

So what's next? Another round of P90X? P90X2? Insanity?

I haven't figured that out yet. I kept up with the running 2-3 times per week and hot yoga once a week and walking my dog for 1-2 hours on the days we don't run, and I've done a couple other things like random p90x workouts and playing soccer sporadically, but nothing regular. I've also been focussing on getting yard work done and building a greenhouse and other things for my shop/garage, which is a workout in itself, so I don't feel too guilty about it (especially since my weight is still dropping quickly enough. 1-2 pounds/week on average).

I think if I do p90x again, or a similar scheduled workout program, it won't be until mid-October when things slow down a bit for the winter. If I find a day or two I may pop in a p90x video throughout the summer, but not as a regular, every day program.

What about you? Did you get started again? I hope you find the motivation you were looking for.

No, I'm struggling to find the energy. I lose about 2.5 hours a day traveling to/from work so it's hard to fit that in. I think I'm going to try working out first thing in the morning.

Yeah, finding the energy is tough at the beginning. It took me 3 months after I made the decision to start and a 'catastrophic' life changing event to get me started, and a few good friends to keep me motivated the first couple months. Once you get started and stick with it for a few weeks the energy will come.

Do you have any specific goals you want to reach in the near to mid future that can motivate you to keep up with the exercising?

Not really... aside from being able to wear the clothes I bought two years ago. You're probably right, though. That's what others have suggested, too, setting goals to work toward.

It is certainly great for motivation. It helps to get moving on those days when you don't really want to. I don't think I'd have gotten so far without having specific goals. I've listed them on previous threads, so I won't go on and on and on about them, which I normally do since I love talking about them because they get me so pumped up with energy...

You have to pick something that works for you anyway, maybe something you've always wanted to do, or try, or return to.

A friend of mine who is 50 decided he wanted to get his black belt in TKD. He's gotten very close before and had to stop because of money and family. Now his kids are grown and he's out of shape and is using that as motivation to hit the gym. I can't remember the exact numbers, but he's lost about 20 pounds so far in the last 4(ish) months, and now the weight loss itself just feeds his motivation.

My brother also, decided he wanted to come on my Kilimanjaro trip, and used that for motivation to get in good enough shape to do it. He tried p90x, but is a single father of 2 and runs his own company and couldn't commit to the time. He stuck with the nutrition part though, and started walking, running and hiking a LOT (with the kids (5 and 7) who take their bikes when he runs) and went from 225 to 190 in the last 2 months.

And I said I wouldn't go on and on... lol

Brainstorm some ideas for goals for yourself. Once you get one that works for you it'll help push you past that initial difficult stage at the beginning.
