I went to a job interview and something interesting happened. While I was there, the person interviewing me for the job (it was a clerical position) told me that I shouldn't stick myself in an office like that because I was way too smart. (Yeah, I know...yeah right. heehee) She said that I should REALLY go to school. Well, school was something that I'd been thinking of so I listened to her for a little while and she knew someone at a local college and called her. She had me talk to her and I called the college when I got home. They set up an appointment for me to go there at 1:00 today to talk to a woman there. Long story short, I start school on Monday. :D I'm going to get an associate degree in Business Management. *Fingers crossed that all goes well* Today was the first day of classes there, but the students have Fridays off. So, I go in tomorrow to fill out the paperwork and I start school on Monday. It's a faster-paced school, so I'll complete the course in about a year. I'm really excited about it and VERY nervous at the same time. I struggle with fatigue and stuff, but I was going to try to work anyway and I might as well get a degree so I can get a decent job in a years' time. Plus, I called the woman that interviewed me for the job after I spoke with the woman at the college. She said that when it comes time for my externship, to tell the college that I want to work there and I can. :D

Congrats to you!

But you realize you went to a job interview and as a result, instead of making money, you're spending more of it. ;)

Hey, if I can help someone with my post, why not? ;) :D

Most people start working on their career when they first get out of high school. Mine was delayed because we found I had a brain tumor. Well, I'm 26 years old now and I feel it's way over due to find my way in life. Even when I went to the college I had two different fields in mind: Medical and IT. After talking to the woman, I finally realized that the medical side of things just wasn't me. (Even though I love the profession and I used to be a CNA.) I like things to be black and white, no gray. So, with doing business administration, it will be black or white. (like accounting) I'm just hoping that I actually get to do it and do well at it. I'm older now, but I also feel that I'm more focused than I would have been a few years ago. And....for my *wonderful* memory, I can always take a recorder with me to class if need be. :)

EDIT: Oh, I thought about the spending instead of earning part. heehee Good thing is that I'll qualify for most financial aid. Plus, I already know where I can do my externship. That's a plus in my book. :)

Thank you, Jean. :)

I went to the school today to do some paperwork and test. I was a little nervous about the test because I haven't gone to school in eight years. lol The girl gave it to me and said that people don't always finish the test in the time given (20 min.) but not to worry and just do my best. (Something to that affect.) Well, I finished just as she opened the door AND I got a perfect score! :Q :D lol I surprised myself. So.......I start college Monday. Now I just need to go to the store and get some school supplies. I feel like a kid again. heehee

Now is the very best time to go back to school, especially if you're in IS/IT. The job market sucks, and education and certification is the #1 way to impress a potential employer.

Way to go!

Go for it, but don't limit yourself. Go for a four year degree if you can swing it. A bachelor's degree will open the door to even greater opportunities. :)

Congrats Heather, really proud of you.

I hope you'll stick with it, apply yourself and reap the rewards. It should be nice to have a job lined up :D

Oh and regarding school supplies Staples has a $10 off $30 printable coupon, that should help.
