Argh! Here's my first OT rant:
I drove to the video store (a BIG US/Canada chain) and rented Gladiator on DVD for tonight. The wife and I hadn't seen it, so we were really looking forward to it. Stood in line for 20 minutes, only to get up to the counter and have the woman look at me and say in an annoyed voice "You didn't happen to notice that there was supposed to be 2 cases for this movie, did you?". Turns out this DVD comes is a double rental case that is supposed to be attached together and the one I had picked up was broken and was only the one case. I said "No..." and she told me to "Go get it". Fine, I run over and look - only double cases - not the other half of my pair. So I grab a double case copy and run back. "There were only double cases" I say. "No" she says "weren't there any other halves?". "No, I said... "Only doubles." She rolled her eyes and rang it up, handed me the movie on the other side of the security sensors, and I left.
So we have dinner at home, put our little autobot to bed and settle down to watch Gladiator. Only to find that the same store clerk had left the plastic security lock on both cases!!!!
Argh! We cannot open the cases to get the movie out. So we call, my wife gives them heck, and the manager apologizes and tells us to "just break the locks". We try but can't, the plastic parts just snapped off and the locking mechanism stayed put. $#*^&!!!
So they tell us we will get a store credit free rental when we come back, which is a start, but our evening is ruined, its too late to go back (40 minutes in the car round trip). And we are stuck.
So my question for everyone: We will take the store credit, but we think we should also insist that we get to keep the movie an extra evening, since renting it tonight means it is due back tomorrow at midnight. We can go to the rental place in the day to get the locking thing removed, but then if we watched it tomorrow night I would either have to a) drive it back before midnight or b) return it the next day and incur late fees (thus using up that store credit).
So is asking to keep the movie an extra day justified, or is the store credit all we should get? We aren't trying to be greedy, but isn't us keeping the movie an extra day thier way of fixing the situation, and then the free rental is thier way of making up for the mess?
