in general. I wish it was cheaper to have an xbox 360 or something.

I have an epox 9npa+ultra, 7800gt, seasonic 430w, 1gb of kingston hyperx

ALL newest drivers (nf4 mobo from nvidia, video from nvidia, etc etc) and I STILL get crashes during half life 2. ALL I WANT TO DO IS PLAY MY FREAKING GAME!!!!!! I'm so freaking sick of this ARG. blue screens about nf4_disp.dll, arg arg arg

EDIT:

I've run memtest for 14 hours (search for threads about this crap) as well as prime95 on both cores, and the vid card (according to vid properties nvidia crap) is nowhere near overheating

seasonic 430w

THIS IS YOUR PROBLEM
A 430W PSU on a 7800GT? It's crashing because your computer isn't getting enough power. You should have AT LEAST a 520W OCZ Powerstream or equivilant in there, not a cheap-ass $50 PSU.

same here, I'm doing a fresh install on my File Server, 9 hard drives, 1 optical, and one floppy drive...

I had to trade my nice a64 2800+/DFI NF3 mobo combo (754) for my dad's Slotek NF2/A-XP 3700+ because the highpoint raid 5 card I got doesn't work with the either the DFI board, or the NF3 chipset... works fine on NF2 and NF4 boards, so I'm betting it's just the DFI...

dude are you joking.. I'm not talking SLI here. The seasonic SHOULD be plenty. If it isn't then what do you recommend for SLI?

I've got:
mobo
opteron 170
2x36gb raptors
2x160gb 7200 seagates
cd burner
dvd driver
7800gt
audigy

the seasonic should be fine w/ that

right? :-|

Have you pulled cards to look for conflicts? I've been in your boat, sometimes problems just won't get fixed until they update drivers and BIOS. It's not what you're doing in those cases, it's just something's not playing friendly with the other components. Also, installation order is really important. The specific name would indicate some video issue, not that the cause id the video it just plays some role. Conflicts can manifest as error on a separate subsystem. If all else fails, try this. Remove all extraneous cards and disable any MoBo devices you don't use in the BIOS. Try an install, see if you still have the problem. You may need to update some, and I'd stick with the latest video drivers that people seem happy with (I can't help there, ATI). You can also get screwy results in upgrading video drivers, so a fresh install might help there. Yjen you can add the devices back in one at a time, see when you get conflicts. Maybe before that, try Google searches for blue screen and EventViewer error. I assume you already have, cant't hurt. Check your drives for errors as well, systems rebooting can cause errors which will complicate troubleshooting, but if you do a fresh install this won't be a necessary step. Turn off system restore, at least for now to remove it as a suspect.
