Given that this contract is just getting started your lack of professionalism sets a poor tone indeed. Did I mention my lunch hour?"
 
Sounds like he had the meeting time wrong on his calendar to begin with. You don't call someone when you're already an hour late and tell them you're running late. We had a situation recently where a coworker scheduled a meeting and told some attendees the meeting was at 4:00 and others it was at 4:30, so a handful of people had to sit around twiddling their thumbs for half an hour. It happens.

Nah lunch is a break, an hour to eat nice and slow gives you more clarity of thought when you go back to work. An hour even lets you drive out somewhere and get a sub and eat it there, chill, look out the window, call someone etc. Hour lunch is very nice.

Ugh, I wish...if I get 15 minutes I'm lucky, and I'm usually typing emails or rdp'ing into a server while I'm eating. I think they give us 1 hour breaks just to say they do, the unspoken rule at my job is you work through them.

I eat at my desk so I don't take an hour lunch which means I can leave earlier like that ever happens. At least when it does I can.

Bullshit

It takes 15-20 minutes to round up the gang, it takes 15-20 mins to drive to the distination, then it takes time to eat, then you have to wait for the waitress to bring the bill, then it takes 15-20 mins to drive back to the office ...

Hour is the minimum for lunch. People should really get 1.5 to 2 hours given that these days it seems like we are all working 10+ hour days and that's really the only major break in the day ...

Wow that sucks man. I love 1 hour lunch breaks (the norm for my current job and last one, both software dev 8-5 jobs). I'd probably go nuts if I was stuck at my desk all day. I love being able to get outside and away from work for an hour each day.

why is it so hard to just tell the person the truth? if he ask do you mind? no big deal to reply "well we did have XX number of people clear out that time for hte meeting. now its at least an hour off waiting for you. i do hope this is not something we can expect in the future"
 
Yeh they tell us required to work 7.5 hours a day but if you come in at 730 eat at your desk and leave at 4 or 430 then you get looked at weird. Everyone else comes in at 9 am or later and leaves later
 
Isn't it obvious OP is some lowling and the person that's late is upper mgmgt? That's why he can do whatever the fvck he wants and OP couldn't say anything.

If OP was the upper mgmt, he wouldn't have just said, "See you then" with a tail between his legs, then post about it on internet.

Actually. I'm going to go out on a limb and say the person late is a contractor one of the OP's boss hired like a PM etc..

This. Seriously. I absolutely would have said something if I were you.
 
I usually try to be within 20-30 minutes of the meeting time if I'm not an "attendance essential" member. Honestly, I try to be on time unless it's off-site at a stupid location.

Last month, I had to go to a few meetings at 8:30am where my input wasn't essential. The great thing was the place was an hour away from my home office. Did this twice. Woke up at 5am one day, then 6am the other. It was nice and convenient for everyone else though since that was their home office.
 
I ditch the person after 30 minutes on the dot. Keeping someone waiting for you is flat out disrespectful.
