Hows your caffeine intake?
Have you been sick and taking anything like sudafed? (many cold meds contain pseudoephidrine)

Not sure what state you live in, but most of them require pseudoephedrine meds to be stored behind pharmacy counters. What with the meth heads stealing it and being retarded ass hardcore destructive twits.

I live in Kahleeforneeya, one of the meth production capitals of the world I think..
Yes, most places keep the pseudoephidrine type drugs behind the counter, and you're limited on how many you can buy at one time.
None of that has anything to do with my question however...I still have these cold-remedies at my house, and will get new ones when these run out...

When trying to fall asleep focus on your breathing. Maintain constant control over it. Make sure the breaths are deep and full. As long as you maintain conltrol over your breathing you'll fall asleep in no time.

Last night I tried to go to bed at 1 am, I tossed and turned and my heart rate was fast and constant for 4 hours. Finally at 5 I went to bed and woke up at 8 am. I called in sick from work and tried to lay down and hope that I just get exhausted and passed out. Didn't happen. I went shopping, had a date come over, ate, watched a movie, saw her off.

Then it's 9pm tonight and I decide, I need to catch up on sleep. I take two sleeping pills and try to crash. An hour later, not only am I not falling asleep, but my heart rate is still pounding and I'm just not falling asleep.

So at 10 pm, I figure, screw it, I'm gonna tire myself out and force myself to crash. I get up and work out. And I don't mean push ups and sit ups, I mean I work my body OUT. I do jacks, lifts, push ups, press ups, mountain crawls. A full cycle work out for a WHOLE hour. 11 pm and I'm STILL not crashing. I put on slow paced music, lay down, just lay there and count. Still nothing.

Now it's 12:30 so I took one more sleeping pill. (The last one I'm going to take) Every limb on my body feels needly like it wants to sleep but my mind is WIDE AWAKE. I don't know what the hell to do guys, HELP me.

And no don't suggest a doctor. I'm a part time employee with no medical benefits. Going to a hospital would kill me just as bad as fainting. I need home-made remedies for this. Someone help me figure out what's wrong

heart racing for no apparent reason?!
SEE A DOCTOR NOW!

as for sleep, excercising wont help u fall asleep any faster. infact the addrenline will keep u up more even more.

soaking in a tub will help. it makes u more relaxed.

Play a video game that makes you think. Eventually your mind will wear itself out and you'll pass out for a few days... hopefully....

I found Pikmin to be very calming, as well as Animal Crossing.

OK.........in the name of all things beautiful..........this is NOT to be taken lightly!!!

Seriously, OP, you need to see a doctor.

Could be anything from a thyroid disorder, to GAD, to heart/blood issues.

Are you sweating too??

Any shaking??

Have you EVER had anything like this before or is this the first time this has ever happened???

What is your age??

(The thoughts being about nothing you care about is a little contradictory to your symptoms, but that's just another reason to see a doc)

I think you should look at the psychological part of this. Sleeping isn't all physical, working out even more may cause you to die of fatigue faster than being awake for long periods of time.

It's more than I can do. I never learned how to do a square root.

No alcohol. A boring movie might help. The weird thing is, the shit I think about while I"m trying to sleep isn't even shit that's important. It's like random shit that happens at work, stuff that doesn't even bother me. I just keep replaying stupid events in my head.

that's what helps keep you up. make your mind blank. think of a plain white wall

Just dont try to go to sleep. Find something to do and eventually your body will want to pass out. Go with the flow and not against it. Or sometimes if you're really exhausted, just keep telling yourself that you're going to crash and that you're tired. Then you will fall asleep. Works for me everytime.

Don't think so much either. Does not matter what you're thinking but you're preventing yourself from sleeping. Reading one hour before bed helps a lot too.

Okay guys, I finally fell asleep for about 4 hours. Now I feel fine, here's what I've concluded:

I'm 24, I need to lay off the energy drinks and cigarettes. I'm not a big time smoker, but I have been downing energy drinks at least 1 a day for a while, and I think not having a regular sleeping pattern combined with an energy drink every day and my body went into a restless period where it didn't know when to sleep or not.

The other issue I think might have to do with it is that up until the day before yesterday, I was a vegetarian. I still ate eggs and drank milk, but I had no meat ingestion so I was experiencing a lack of iron. I don't know if that's a leading reason or if it's just contributive but I'm sure it's at least somewhat a stimulant of what I was experiencing.

My hands weren't shaky and I wasn't experiencing blank stares or anything. It was more or less, my mind was fully awake and wandering.

I just need to chill and relax and not think about the shit going on at work all the time. For the last 3-4 weeks, whenever I have a couple days off and it's supposed to be R&R time, I always get phone calls from coworkers telling me about one of my colleagues talking trash about me and trying to make me look bad while I'm on my days off. It's really frustrating because then I feel like work envelopes my life and I'm usually the type of person that leaves work at work and home at home. I guess I'll talk to my boss about it, let him know that if I'm such a valuable technician, they should properly deal with this type of gossip and slander going on at work before I have to deal with it myself.

The other thing is that I just recently got involved in a relationship - She's great and everything is fine, but looking at it, maybe my mind hasn't settled into it yet. Even though there's no problems with her, it's still been over a year before her that I took a girl seriously, and it's been about 5 years since my last REAL relationship. Maybe my mind is subconsciously analyzing the situation over and over again because it's not something I'm used to.

The other problem I could think of, psychologically is that I'm not tiring my mind out. I got a job in retail, stopped playing RPG games, stopped reading, stopped writing. When I build my Hackintosh I'm going to submerge myself in production programs and work on my writing more. I need to work out my mind just as much as my body I think.

Thanks a lot for the words guys. I think trying a little bit of everything is what ended up putting me to sleep. I drank a little beer, sheep counted, meditated, took a warm bath. I guess I just did like 20 things to tell my body, "Look you stupid crap, I'm trying to shut you down." Worrying about death teaches me to appreciate my life a little bit more. I'm going to sign back up for school and start doing more productive things with my time.

As an owner of a very powerful Hackintosh, I can most definitely tell you that it will lead to DECREASED sleep, not INCREASED sleep ;) Once you see how fast Final Cut, Adobe CS3, Logic, Maya, and whatever else you may use runs, you're gonna be on the computer for loooooooong periods of time. When I go into video editing mode (in the zone?) I zone out for hours and don't even realize it.

From your description, it sounds like you simply need to improve how you treat your body. It's not difficult, but it is a change. Go to bed before 10pm, exercise for at least 30 minutes (walking around the mall is fine), and eat 3 healthy meals a day. Dump alcohol, cigarettes, energy drinks, anything with caffeine, sugar, and lay off processed foods and fast food for awhile. Carry a water bottle with you and avoid soda too. Your body, at the most basic level, is an organic machine. If you don't provide your body with the necessary maintenance required, it's going to fall apart like any other machine. Just try treating your car badly for awhile and see how it runs :D
