These do not do SLI correct? I have a gtx280 on order

no the only board on lga775 with sli is the nvidia boards.

But they dont overclock very well.

If your getting a new sli board + new cpu, you might as well step up to an i7.

Aigomorla, even though I agree with you, the one drawback to this new setup that most are going with is hard to justify if you're a RAM hog like I am...If not, & 4 GB is fine, then this recommendation is ideal...Otherwise, until DDR3 prices come down at least 30%, this path could be very costly compared to a 775 / DDR2 path for anyone looking to run more than 4 GB...

its not too much to get a 6GB kit for the x58, ocz gold on newegg for 179@ 1600 Mhz. sure its, more expensive than ddr2, but you could also get slower ram for the i7 even cheaper. 6 GB is a good amount for it. still, it is more expensive, but also, a core i7 920 at 3.8-4 ghz would really rock, and from what i hear, its easily doable with a decent x58 board.

sucks that the I7 is about 100 dollars out of my price range. I have 500 to spend on motherboard proc and ram

Yeah I dunno for i7 you just need some decent DDR3-1600 and you're set and you can acquire 6GB of said RAM for a little over a $220 or so.

That's like ~$70/2GB for non-bobo RAM, which I don't think is unreasonable.

Lol, no. That's totally unreasonable, esp when you can get 3x the DDR2 ram for the same price.

But the great thing is what the Q9650/Q9550 are going to cost soon :)
