Perhaps he/she just missed this thread...

I'm going to guess that the reason they won the contract is because they had the lowest bid. Just a wild guess though. As such, I'd speculate that the salary range for the jobs being offered here are going to be lower than what the state would have been able to do insourced. Since most States (as a rule of thumb) do not pay well (but generally have good benefits) you are likely to be in a low salary / low benefit range. I don't imagine that the salary range was left off by accident.

Hopefully, for those of you looking for work, I'm wrong. (One possibility is that they have less FTE doing more than others do, which could mean higher pay at the expense of extra hours). Anyway, Who knows, if they won one deal, you could get inthe door and find an opportunity with the next 'win'.

BTW, Congrats on the Win.

My best guess as to why they were the low bidder is that phone tech support is based in India and techs will be paid about $18 - 22k a year plus car allowance if necessary.

I can see a lot of problems with a setup like that though. State workers will be frustrated with the phone tech support and complain endlessly about it.
Initially because of the still poor state of the economy they will land decent techs desperate for any job they can get. As the economy improves the good techs will move onto better paying jobs and the quality of the tech pool will go way downhill.

Pomeroy will fulfill their contract but I doubt they will get a renewal from a less than happy state.

I missed the check box to include my email addy in my profile.

Anyone seriously interested, please email.

To answer some questions:

Yes we were the low bid. We do only the out of warranty hardware repair. Phone support and troubleshooting is done by the State's Help Desk. We only swap out the broken parts.
The job postings listed on the company site is only for employees at the other company branches. I am looking for people at my branch and since this contract is so new, nothing else is posted yet.

Types of jobs will be:
Hardware repair
Printer break/fix
System engineer
AS/400 repair
Optical scanner repair
Call dispatch

Salary ranges depend on location within the state and of course experience required and what experience you have.

you cant post something like this and not include a salary range.

When I lived in PA, PC techs were making about $30,000 a year. I couldn't find any server side work in the area, and a salary that low wasn't enough to keep me around.

It's still spam. I could have at least respected his post if it was in cowen's stickied post at the top of ATOT.

The post was not spam.

It is a valid request for interested techs looking for a foot in the door at a growing branch for an established IT support company.

So far, only 1 person has expressed any interest in in talking further.

In my book, spam is unsolicited advertisement, period. It doesn't matter how good your intentions are or if you are advertising a product or a job opportunity or if your advertisement is legitimate or not. Unsolicited = spam.

Anyway, you would be well-served to post at least a general salary range. Fine if it varies across areas, but if it's $10k-$20k I'm not going to waste your time. If it's $50k-$60k on the other hand...

I live in Kentucky too. I work for the state and asked a Pomeroy tech about a job they had open. Put it this way, I work for the state and would have had to take a $15,000 pay cut.
