On a 3 lane highway the middle lane is where you are supposed to be regardless if you are passing or not. This leaves the left lane for passing and the right lane for merging/exiting traffic. I'm not mad at you, I'm impressed you know how to drive properly.

You'd be in prison for doing that around here (from so many tickets). They WILL pull you over for 5 over here.

My answer is obviously, you're fine. As long as you are going the speed limit (or within a couple mph) the only lane you shouldn't be in is the left-most (which is for passing only).

Wow, so much to say but would be wasted on you. You speak of entitlement but then camp in a lane thinking other people should adjust... Won't event waste my time.

You have a lot to say because you're illiterate and probably one of the douchebags with an entitlement problem. No laws are broken by driving 55 in the middle lane and it's a free country. The problem lies with maggots whose parents failed to teach them respect for others.

1) You are personally attacking another forum member for disagreeing with you
2) Your grammar is awful
3) Matching traffic speed is not reckless, blocking a lane because you want to drive at exactly 55mph is
4) You're a hypocrite - you talk about entitlement, then say "it's a free country I can do what I want", by doing so you are showing a lack of consideration for others and an entitlement mentality
5) You don't know the traffic laws as well as you think you do

All in all, if I can pass you on the left, we're cool. OR if I can't but you move over for me, that's EXTRA cool and I'll smile+wave at you.

First, I'm glad that you agree that people going the speed limit are fine (middle lane). I go 5-10mph over but the maggots who are recklessly weaving and going 25 over are the problem... last, nowhere did I state that I personally only drive the speed limit - read.

lets assume there's decent volume but flowing well. you may have to wait out a few cars to pass on the left due to the volume.

edit: right lane is even more packed with entering/exiting traffic, going at 55 mph or slightly slower.

Sounds like you are following the flow of traffic. Faster to your left, slower to the right.

I have no problem with this.

thats two words... :p ;)

every time i read these threads i keep flashing back to my motorcycle safety course i took with my mom. yes, my mom rides as well, a sportster trike. the instructor asked the whole class which lane was the safest to ride in on the freeway, and when i told him the middle he pretty much giggled and told me no. the left lane is the "safest" for motorcycles to ride in statistically, so they recommend staying there. ive always remembered that, but i still ride the middle lane so i dont have to deal with people entering/ exiting the freeway on the right and people wanting to pass me on the left. here in az if youre doing 70 in a 65 youre going too slow and being passed regularly.

It is also illegal in many states in the U.S. to use the "far left" or passing lane on a major highway as a travelling lane (as opposed to passing), or to fail to yield to faster moving traffic that is attempting to overtake in that lane.

Almost every state (those w/o are exceptions) have laws either prohibiting slow driving in the left lane or simply say you must be passing people on the right to be in that lane.

In VA (state in your profile) the law says: 46.2-842.1 requires vehicles in the left lane to yield to faster traffic; State Police say this applies even when faster traffic is speeding.

So yeah, it's not legal in most cases.

Your freedom comment is laughable at best.

If you then need to pass someone, go around them and get back to the right.

I drive the speed limit all the time and I always stay in the right lane. It's required and it's courteous.

as long as grandpa isn't doing 55 in the far left lane and staying there, he's fine. Otherwise, just camping doing 55 in teh far left lane is illegal even though he is "doing the speed limit" (in most states, including my state).

However, I'm not attacking that freedom statement because you said "middle lane" so i think you're aware of the difference between left lane camping and cruising in the middle lane.

Ok thanks for the clarification. Considering that I live in VA and drive on some of the fastest roads here, I would be willing to bet that a trooper would not let that excuse fly because there is no way to prove that everyone around you was doing 90mph. It wouldn't hold up in court, his radar gun (and your reckless driving ticket) will. I'm sure the interpretation of that law was meant for people who are going 10 over which is the normal flow. I'll occasionally observe someone going 55 in the middle lane but I don't care because they're allowed to and I just pass them on the left.

If you're not passing, move to the right. If you're getting passed on both sides, you're a dipshit and you'll get pulled over by the cops, wither you're doing the speed limit or not. Have a fucking brain, dont obstruct traffic. Slow people cause more accidents on the highway that fast drivers.

In a 55mph 3-lane area, I'm usually doing 60 in the middle lane. And that's just keeping up with the other people in the middle lane.

I will not drive in the right lane on a 3 lane if I can avoid it, that's for merging in and out.

I guess you weren't trolling -

1) I think I got the wrong end of the stick... so appologies

2) Your grammar looks fine looking over it again. The spelling mistakes are obviously deliberate... don't know what I was thinking :(

Apologies again.

3) Yeah because troopers never drive at 85 mph, nor do the majority of the public. There are times when speeding is reckless and times when it is not. Speed is not a factor in the majority of fatal accidents (at least not here). There are worse things you can do was the point, and driving below the prevailing traffic speed is not without risk!

4) You are forgetting that driving is a privilege and not a right. Far to many, as you would put it, "maggots" think it is their right to do what ever they want while in a car...

5) Cultural difference... most of our roads have a normal and an overtaking lane. Came from being annoyed at being stuck behind someone driving at 40 mph in the overtaking lane on the way home and I was about the 8th car in the queue. The lights are fairly well timed, so if you drive at 40 you miss them all. That adds more than 1 minute over the journey. Here three lanes = motorway (interstate), lane discipline on them is also awful :(

6) Is a question, not an attack...
Your statement had nothing to back it up either in your own words "put up or shut up". You can't blame all the problems of today on parents, especially if they weren't the ones that taught the fucktards to drive... From what I have heard the licence test in some states is laughable... maybe the finger should be pointed in that direction?

7) Withdrawn. Don't post in driving threads while pissed off by other drivers and tired. Lesson learnt.

In jersey, if you are going 55 on any lane of the parkway even where its marked 55 instead of 65 you are going to be passed by every single other driver on the road.

The flow of traffic is constantly 75-85 in the left and middle lanes with troopers usually still tailgating people to get by, not pulling them over. Though of course you will get ticketed on occasion for going 85.

So yeah, if you are going 55 in the middle lane you would be quite a danger on the road. If you are in the right lane fine go 55 but you're still gonna be tailgated and passed quite often.
