Every time I use the washing machine, there's always a big puddle afterwards.

Time to buy a new washing machine?

Olestra detergent?

On a more serious note, check the hoses, etc?

Do you have one of the plastic trays for your washing machine?

nvm this question does mean anything... even if you had a tray you still would have leak...

I'm going to go take a nap

Check the drain line.
If it was a pressure line it would leak all the time as the valve is inside the machine. So if the drain line is not the problem then time to upgrade to a Front Loader.

The drain line is almost always the cause of this. Is the water soapy or clean?

Leaks as in broken hose, or fail seal?

Broken hose is cheap & easy to repair, failed seals isn't bad in top loader but expensive for front loader.

Are you mechanically inclined? If so, repairs are probably a small fraction of the cost of a new washer. If you're not mechanically inclined? Hmmm.

First: locate the source of the leak. Many models: there are two screws on the front bottom edge of the control part of the washing machine that holds it down to the top metal surface. Remove these two screws. Others, there aren't any screws - you just slide a putty knife in on the left and right sides to pop the top loose. The control panel lifts up and tilts back, out of the way. There should be an electrical connector from it to the top of the machine. Disconnect. There are two metal spring clips on the top, toward the back, that connect the top surface to the back surface. Pop these out. Now, pull the metal cabinet toward the front of the machine - it will tilt down & then can be lifted out of place so you can see the inside & underneath very well.

See if you can figure out where the leak was coming from. If you can't, if you're slightly electrically inclined, you can remove the lid switch from the cabinet & reconnect it to the control panel. That way, you can run the washing machine without the cabinet. Keep cats away.

Removal of the cabinet takes about 1-2 minutes total. Putting it back: 1 to 2 minutes total. They're made to be very easy to get to internal parts, not that there are many.

What make & model washing machine do you have?

Had a similar problem covered under our 'extended' warranty. Repair tech found it to be a faulty pump (plastic pump had a crack in it). Didn't look like a very complicated repair, but, he knew what he was doing. He said it was a fairly common problem but, who knows. It's a 3yo Top Loading 'Whirlpool' if it makes any difference.

If you're not mechanically inclined enough to turn the thing over to see where it's leaking...then it's definitely time to buy a new washer.

Probably one of the following sources:

Bad drain hose. VERY common source of leakage.

Bad inlet hose and/or washer. However, unless the puddle is always there, probably NOT the problem.
Bad seals/gaskets. Unless the machine is relatively new, probably not worth the cost of repair. (unless you can DIY)

I had this problem when I moved into my new house. The washer was brand new, but I still ripped it apart to try and see what was going on...in the end, the washer was out of balance and in the agitation cycle it would splash water over the top. The water would run down the sides and all over the floor. I balanced it out and it's been fine ever since.

Didn't you hear the noise from that?
