Well, as you probably didn't know, I was at Air Force Basic Military Training for the past thirteen weeks...And, well; the usual program is only six and a half. Yeah. I decided I liked Lackland Air Force Base SO MUCH that I wanted to spend as much time here as possible! Right.

Anyway, I was recycled two weeks for physical training reasons, and then I got sick and was in "Fever Flight" for ten days. After that, I was in "Get Fit Flight" for two weeks. But I finally graduated! Ill be going to Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, TX tomorrow at 0345 (yay...) and then I only have eleven weeks of Tech School before I go to my first duty station (which is hopefully going to be in England or Germany, maybe even Japan). So I'm pretty excited.

And I have to say, the sense of pride and accomplishment I felt as my instructor gave me my Airman's Coin was absolutely indescribable...I am an Airman. A disciplined warrior. A woman in a man's world, part of the honorable profession of arms.

The Airman's Creed:
I am an American Airman.
I am a Warrior.
I have answered my Nation's call.

I am an American Airman.
My mission is to Fly, Fight, and Win
I am faithful to a Proud Heritage,
A Tradition of Honor,
And a Legacy of Valor.

I am an American Airman.
Guardian of Freedom and Justice,
My Nation's Sword and Shield,
Its Sentry and Avenger.
I defend my Country with my Life.

I am an American Airman.
Wingman, Leader, Warrior.
I will never leave an Airman behind.
I will never falter,
And I will not fail.

Well, it's been a few days since that was written (cut and paste is my friend), and I just found out I probably won't even start school until the thirteenth of November. Yay. So it looks like I'll be here at Sheppard as long as I was at Lackland. And on top of that, some of you may remember that Xabanak Fanatik and I are dating...Well, we had our one-year anniversary at BMT, and now I can't even see him. Life blows a fat load right now.

I was always under the assumption the PT requirments of the Air Force were the lowest of all the Armed Services.

I remember in the Army we used to laugh the fat camp kids who couldn't enter BT. Once you hit your permanant duty station, stay in shape or you will be back to doing extra PT earlier in the morning then normal and sometimes in the evenings.

And Congrats, thanks for for enlisting and keeping this Country safe!

Wow.

You made it through BMT... 13 weeks at that and now you are upset you can't see your boyfriend? You need to reevaluate why you joined..... seriously.

I'm applying in a week (Nov 6th, my 20th birthday) for the CAF. Within a couple weeks I'll be starting.

Nervous and excited at the same time. Though...I really hope I can tolerate the physical, and that I don't fail the medical. ;)

Congratulations, and good luck in Tech School. What's your AFSC? I know it kind of sucks now, but time goes by fast, eventually. I can't believe it was just over 13 years ago I was in your shoes. From this crusty ol' Sergeant (you have to watch out for us) to one of our newest Airmen, welcome!

Congrats!

I also had the extended stay a few years back, because of pneumonia. Oddly enough, I still made the run time while coughing up bloody phlegm. This was back when it was a 2mi run though.

Good luck at Sheppard though, trust me on this, its going to be the worst part of your career, worse than basic. You'll exhaust all sources of entertainment at Wichita Falls in about 24, 48 if you're of legal drinking age. I was there for my 3 level and then again for my 7 level school.

Here's some good advice though. As soon as you get to your first duty station, see the Education Office. Find out what you need for your CCAF degree and begin working on that immediately. If someone tells you that you cannot take classes while in 5 level upgrade training, ask to see the reg. There is no AF level AFI that states you cannot take classes while in upgrade training. Local installations may have local OIs, however, the process for tuition assistance circumvents your chain of command entirely. Having said that, it would be wise to wait until your first volume of CDCs is finished so you have an understanding of what the work load is going to be. Since you're spending 13 weeks at Sheppard, I'm guessing something thats going to have a lot of CDCs.

This same advice was given to me shortly after I graduated Basic and then again shortly after I graduated tech school. I chose to ignore it. Some people start with the attitude that they want to go career and spend 20+ in the service. However, its always best to reenlist because you choose to, not because you have to. If you've got the education, then you're not forced to reenlist.

Oh, just a little info about me. :) I'm an E5, Avionics troop by trade, 2Ax7x now, formerly 2A051B.

Edit - If anyone wants to know more about the AF PT program, don't hesitate to ask me. I managed the program for my flight of 65 people, and later assisted the Unit Fitness Program Manager at the SQ level for a 400+ person squadron. I do get the understanding that Luke AFB, where I'm at, is a little more hardcore than other places though. For some reason, everyone that comes here from RoK fails their PT eval, even during the winter months.

She's been away from home, away from loved ones for double the amount of time she anticipated. She was also physically ill during that time. Of course she's disappointed, she wants to see home, who wouldn't?

Thanks for serving.

I've heard that sexual assault is a very real danger for women serving. Be careful, don't take any crap, be safe.

Hey, I didn't get a coin! I don't recall that creed, either.
But congrats :)
I'm 2nd generation... my mom enlisted when there was still a WAF :p

The Airman's Creed is relatively new. Previously, there were creeds for NCOs, SNCOs, BMT trainees, maintainers, etc. Everyone and their uncle had their own creed. Some good, some lame . . . most lame. AF senior leadership decided we needed a standard creed for the entire AF. Whether or not it will last beyond a few years is iffy though.

Just from the time I've been in, most Air Force people I've met, at or below my level, despise chants, creeds, and the like.

The only chant I've actually liked got banned here at Luke though, the AGE chant. You can't get off until we come. Hilarious. :)

We actually have the hardest PT standards of all the Armed Forces; while the ARMY and Navy have two minutes to complete lower numbers, we have one minute. And I need to work out tonight; I've been slacking. :/

Thank you, Geekbabe.

It hurts that I can't see him because I want to marry him...And he's told me repeatedly that he won't give me an answer until our lives had settled down a bit. So not only am I stuck in military limbo (I found out today that it's for sure I won't start class until the 13th), but I'm in romantic limbo as well. All I want is some human contact, but he's at Lackland and soon Oregon, and I'm here at Sheppard and I'm not about to be unfaithful to him (plus SAFB has one of the highest STD rates in the Air Force).

Oh yeah. We've had briefing after briefing about SARC and sexual assault. It's no joke.

Anyway, I wish I could reply to this thread more often, but I can only get online after duty hours & I have to be back in my room before 2200, and I had laundry to do last night. :( It sucks, but whatever. It still beats Lackland. :)

And thank everyone so much for you kind words! As soon as I get my camera I'll post pictures. :)

They aren't still using those condemned buildings as dorms are they? When I was there for my 7 level school, those buildings mysteriously became uncondemned because they needed the space. :p

Also, the ration of males to females at SAFB is about 10 to 1. The ugliest, dumbest, sluttiest women will still be highly sought after by men. Sad fact, unfortunately.

If you're of legal drinking age, be careful. If you're not, don't even try to drink.

You know you're a REMF when you do PT just so you can pass the test ;) But congrats, you didn't say what your MOS will be, but be great at it. And if it does involve flight duty, and you ever have some of my old teammates on your bird, do me a favor and cut 'em some slack.

Congrats! I was discharged from AF a few yrs ago for developing asthma...stayed for 7weeks in boot camp before leaving. 3CO reserve. It was tough breathing in the 98% humidity TX summer with 100F temps.
