Wow...
Just stay out of trouble... you'll be surprised on how hard it is to get a decent job with a bad rep. Yeah, it was fun but if you keep doing it, you'll regret it. If you are as smart as you say you are, you'll stop having 'fun'.

Dude you're so going to get flamed. I'd expect this on genmay not Anandtech. Seriously, I'd ask a mod to delete your post. You're so going to get flamed.

Damn man did you read any of this thread? He's talking about getting jumped in prison after being arrested for gang related activities and you think he'll be worried that some random geeks will say bad things about him. Are you just trying to single-handedly personify the idiotic posts in this thread are are you really that obtuse?

To the OP: Thanks for sharing the experience and good luck getting your life together. I'm sure you're well aware of the sheltered lives most of the folks around here have led so the ignorance of thier posts probably doesn't suprise you. At 19, you've got your whole life ahead of you and you just got a taste of what a terrible thing it could be. I hope you make the right decisions now and I wish you luck.

A special aside for FallenHero: I think you should really reconsider that attitude of entitlement that you're swinging around here and think twice before you start judging strangers. No one is asking why you're parents weren't wise enough financially to help with your education or why you aren't smart enough to get a scholarship for yourself. It sounds to me like you are doing what you can to get an education and so is the OP.

You're a pussy. Granted, jail does suck, but you should have thought of that before you committed the crimes that put you there.

Oh you guys are all perfect. Call me a liberal puke but give the guy a chance to succeed.

A dangerous person is someone that doesn't have anything to live for.

I dont believe this story, he's way too coy about the way he tells it. I mean seriously, what kind of gangbanger gets in gang fights then posts to anandtech forums?

...so outrageous

So that means so long as you are smart you can get away with things with little to no punishment? That's complete ass. Genius or not, he not only screwed up, he screwed up bad (although it isn't murder or rape). Bad enough to land him in jail.

punishment? as in... jail time perhaps?

First time i spent 30 days, and was stuck in a dorm style jail with about 40 other people, and only one TV.

Second time i was in for almost 3 years... and out of that, i spent 21 days in solitary confinement (the hole) because of a fight (locked up in your cell 24/7, with 10 min showers every other day, and an hour in the 'yard' - which was nothing more than a cement cube the size of 1/5 basketball court). No tv, no books, no magazines... just you, a steel bed, steel toilet/sink (actually, after the first week some people snuck down a book for me... CS Lewis book, even though i'm an atheist, i read it), and the screams of other inmates wanting out.

i call bs, you didn't get sent down to the hole and get out in 15 days. No way would they release you if you've got pending charges, and it takes a couple of weeks before you even show up for the kangaroo court.

LOL and 3 fights in 15 days,... yeah right. People 'testing' you LOL. Lets say you did get in a fight, your first fight was in line at lunch, so no doubt the guards would see you. And if they did, you would have been thrown in the hole that very day and stay there until you were released, so you couldn't have gotten into the other two fights.

I don't really see why all of you have to condemn this guy. He's already paid the price for his crimes leave him alone. And I thought it was an interesting story, nice to hear some more of what jail is like from a prisoners perspective (vs. a guard or cop).
