btw, ignore Abix. He's a 12 year old boy that relies on the dicionary to sound knowledgable.

Hrm, Brut, awesome cartoon. Thanks, this is coming from a redneck in the western washington area.

Abix, something you might want to know about rednecks, they aren't all in the southern united states. I understand that, that is where the dictionary puts them, cause the majority of them are there. But there are rednecks everywhere. Heck, I imagine its one of the largest groups in the world. the color of your skin doesn't matter. Your accent doesn't matter. Your clothes don't matter. Its a frame of mind. Plain and simple. The dictionaries of the world can't explain properly what a redneck is. Heck, most rednecks can't even explain what a redneck is. They just is what they is.

And to back up the fact that there are rednecks everywhere, drive about 10 miles south of me to a small town called Roy. It's like driving to the southern states in alot less time. It almost feels like another country. But it isnt.

One thing I want to know, why are you standing up for the rednecks when all of them are telling you to sit down, shut up, and listen to them? The rational mind sees you as one that wants to just argue and you found a topic that you think a dictionary will help you out on. But you realize that experience gives you alot more knowledge than reading a book ever will?

The world we live in is wrong? Oh my Nik, youve surely surpassed me here. Surely you must be God himself!

Also, I did go back and read the thread, but apparently I must be missing something. If you could point out the specific posts, I would be indebtted to you.

How many people have replied to you telling you that you and the two dictionaries are wrong, including rednecks themselves?

Who's the irrational one here?

I have a question for you Abix.

If a redneck makes fun of himself or other rednecks, does that make him a racist?

Wrap your mind around THAT ONE!

more along the lines of why is it acceptable for a black person to call another black person a (n-word) yet if anyone else of another skin color says it, the black people get all pissed off.

Something is being taken away from person X. Since I am not person X, and since it doesnt apply to me, I do nothing. Next, something is being taken away from person Y. Since I am not person Y, and since it doesnt apply to me, I do nothing. This series goes on for a bit, until finally something is being taken from me. At this point, everybody else has had that something already taken away from then. Since I abandoned my fellows in the past, now I stand alone against the masses.

Even though it doesnt apply to me doesnt mean I should ignore it. I sure hope you arent saying that I shouldnt speak up for another group of people(blacks, whites, jews, rednecks) if I am not a member of said group. That doesnt seem very human to me. Besides, there may come the day when I am discriminated against, and I would surely hope that I would not be standing alone.

You may be able to read a dictionary entry, but that doesn't necessarily mean you comprehend the definition or understand the word's connotations. Hence, you?re all alone in your unfounded argument.

Furthermore, you fail to understand the concept of oppression. This is a simple joke. American rednecks are joked about all the time, and often in much ruder ways. I can assure you there will not be a revolt or riot as a result of this joke. This isn't a problem. I live in Farmington, Missouri, and I know plenty of rednecks. They'd laugh at this!

Rednecks are not an oppressed group. They choose to live the way they do. If they did happen to be an oppressed entity, then sure, you could defend them from the cruel taunting of the interweb, and not look like a complete moron.

These aren't bad ideas:

You should take that chill pill Brutuskend recommended and focus on your essay for a few hours...maybe you'll come to your senses.

Edit: After reading the latest posts, I see that you've declared yourself a racist. Doesn't that ruin your case? How can you fight "racism" (since that's what you choose to call this) if you're a racist yourself? That is some masterful logic if I've ever seen any. :p

Since when has the number of people who supported something proved to be an indication of what is actually right and true? Additionally, self-described rednecks are exactly that. Hell, if I wanted, I could call myself a redneck, but that wouldnt make me one.

While I disagree that "all of them"(since *all* the rednecks cant be on here at the boards at the same time) are telling me to sit down, shut up, and listen to them, I must agree that in this area you and others probably have more experience than I(since I only have 19 years on this earth). Additionally, since your post is the first well thought-out, coherent one that isnt a "STFU REDNECK" or "LOL U R WRONG" or "DICTIONARIES R WRONG LOL," I would like to thank you. At this point, I will withdraw from the thread to get more personal experience in the matter and to finish my essay.

Right, but not because of the reasons you think. It wouldn't make you one because you aren't living the lifestyle. It has nothing to do with race. I don't understand why you can't get that through your thick skull.
