Another fun thing to note is that dictionary.com shows both redneck and ****** to be offensive slang. Its quite amusing that both are used to disparage against a race, yet one is socially-accepted, whereas the other is not.

I don't care what dictionary.com says; the term "redneck" is not racist because being a redneck isn't a race. You can have Indian rednecks. You can have Etheopian rednecks. You can have mexican rednecks and chinese and japanese rednecks. It's a lifestyle, not a race.
How about merriam-webster:
"1 sometimes disparaging : a white member of the Southern rural laboring class
2 often disparaging : a person whose behavior and opinions are similar to those attributed to rednecks"

Oh darn, it looks like Merriam-Webster disagres with you.

Their definition is lacking. Their definition includes people who aren't rednecks and excludes those who are.

Quite possible they were wrong. I know a redneck that isn't even from the south.

Did you ever stop to realize that perhaps there are limits to the amount of knowledge regarding the nature of the world, that a dictionary can impart?

Yup. There are rednecks in my neighborhood who are below the working class, not white, and don't live in the south.

Once again, I point you to dictionary.com:
"A group of people united or classified together on the basis of common history, nationality, or geographic distribution: the German race."

Redneck:
Common history? Check.
Nationality? Check, but a non-issue.
Geographic distrubtion? Check. The Southern US.

About the WASP:
"A white Protestant of Anglo-Saxon ancestry."
Something defined by skin color and ancestry? How could this NOT be a race?

Then it would appear that he doesnt fit the dictionary definition of the redneck. Logic permits then that he must not be a redneck, but instead something else.

So what would you tell the rednecks who aren't white, aren't in the working class, and live near me here in Oregon? That they're not rednecks?

Racism is based on race. Color of your skin. What you're boasting from those dictionary references IS socially-adapted.

I wouldnt tell them anything, as I did not incorrectly classify them as "rednecks". Just refer back to the definition of "redneck."

Nobody here is being racist. You have gotten yourself worked up over nothing. Making jokes and being racist are two entirely different things.

People make jokes about different ethnic/religious groups all the time. That doesn't mean that they actually disparage those groups.

Those two sites are wrong. Plain and simple. Their definitions are incorrect.

Remember, you can now be racist by disapproving of religion.

Of course, YOU must be right. The dictionaries that we use for definitions are WRONG. How could I be so moronic as to believe something that has been printed over and over again!?

Get a grip. Go ask anyone on the street what the definition of redneck is and they'll describe something very different.

See, that's the problem. That's not always been the definition of redneck. You think the dictionaries never change their definitions? Ever? And are always right? They're written by humans and humans make mistakes, just like you're doing by calling this racism.

What the average human on the street knows doesnt make the defintion of a word or a fact. For instance, if you ask the average human where Iraq is on a map and they point to Israel, that doesnt mean that Israel is really Iraq, it just means theyre misinformed, like you are.

Also, dictionaries do change their definitions. They change them to fit what the current definition of a word is according to what it is percieved as. People are not perfect, and of course they make mistakes, but when your job is doing definitions for words and youve been doing it since 1831, youd think that they have a good amount of skill and accuracy in their defintions.

What I find most amusing about this is all you can is that the dictionaries are wrong without presenting any sort of proof that proves otherwise.
