Ah the movies... Between the pre-movie ads, movie prices, food/drink prices, crowds, parking, asshats in the theaters, etc it's just not worth it. I saw Clerks2 and it was 1) not loud enough and 2) filled with asshats 3) 1 hour in line to get in and 4) 5 minutes of premovie ads. Last movie I saw before Clerks2 was LOTR3. I'll likely stay away for a while again. I'd rather rent the movie and watch it on my home theater setup.

I went to see Barnyard and their was 2 Old Navy comemrcials, 1 National Guard commercial and a Coke commercial. This is ridiculous. Not to mention before the previews start their are ads that rotate. If they are gonna put up advertisments the ticket price should be lower.

How about this, if they didn't put up ads the ticket price would be HIGHER.

I haven't been to the movies in a year, not because of the ads (I don't mind them), but because if I go at night there's annoying teenagers and if I go to a matinee there's parents who can't control their kids.

A. As long as the movies (or previews) start on time, why are we complaining?

B. You don't have to watch the commercials; you can ignore them and talk through them or do whatever you want.

C. If you really can't stand it, don't show up for the movie way ahead of time - the only scenario where this might not be easy is if you like to go to premiers and thus want to get good seats.

Personally, I don't mind the price of movie tickets. You pay for big screen and the crowd experience (maybe I'm just spoiled with decent theaters, IMAX and digital screens and stadium seating with decent high back/semi reclining seats); you simply can't get that holed up at home. Batman Begins on the IMAX was in-fvcking-credible, and there's no way its anywhere near as good as at home (I'd also like to mention there are drastically fewer, if any, ads/previews on IMAX screened movies).

In truth, I actually find the ads somewhat of a plus if I'm seated and have a long wait before the movie is scheduled to start (e.g. at a premier showing). What really pisses me off is the price of food and drink at theaters, because they?re a good 300%+ higher than if you smuggle stuff in (which I?ll admit to doing, because it is less of a crime than the prices they charge).

With DVD rentals for $1, movie theatres would still be a massive waste of money even if there weren't commercials.
