Pisses me off.

WE LIVE IN AMERICA, IT'S CALLED CHRISTMAS.

I am not religious for the record but I think this politically correct crap is idiotic and ridiculous. I am sad to see that commercials, TV, etc are still using the term 'Holiday' from last year.

Anyone else agree this is stupid?

EDIT: Minus a few, most think I'm an idiot (which is fine). Just wanted to show I'm not the only one 🙂

It's all about marketing. Christmas lasts 1 day. The holidays start at Halloween and go to about the Super Bowl. I'm not christian but we still celebrate Christmas, well we put a fir tree inside the house, stick material gifts under it for others to open, and then express a faux surprised expression when we see something that we don't really want.

He lived, there really is not debate about that. Now, him becoming a zombie is more of a subject to discuss.

Holiday ===> Holi Day ===> Holy Day

So what exactly are you bitching about?

:music: It's beginning to look a lot like Holiday
Ev'rywhere you go;
Take a look in the five-and-ten, glistening once again
With candy canes and silver lanes aglow.

It's beginning to look a lot like Holiday,
Toys in ev'ry store,
But the prettiest sight to see is the holly that will be
On your own front door.

A pair of hopalong boots and a pistol that shoots
Is the wish of Barney and Ben;
Dolls that will talk and will go for a walk
Is the hope of Janice and Jen;
And Mom and Dad can hardly wait for school to start again.

It's beginning to look a lot like Holiday
Ev'rywhere you go;
There's a tree in the Grand Hotel, one in the park as well,
The sturdy kind that doesn't mind the snow.

It's beginning to look a lot like Holiday;
Soon the bells will start,
And the thing that will make them ring is the carol that you sing
Right within your heart.
:music:

I think it's pretty dumb. I suppose it is an excuse for them to put up the decorations early and hopefully sell more stuff by wrapping Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanuka, Kwanzaa, and who knows what else into one package, but anyone thin-skinned enough to get offended by the word "Christmas" should be ridiculed.

It's just like changing our dating system from "B.C." and "A.D. to "B.C.E." and "C.E."...if you're still enumerating from the same event, changing the names is just stupid and smacks of a petty phobia. If you want a "non-religious" dating scheme, then start counting from a different place, like the oldest written work, or the fall of Rome, or any other big event in history.

"Fantasy character"? Even if you don't believe any of the religious stuff surrounding the man, it's flat-out dumb to claim that he didn't exist as a person.

Do you not believe in Socrates either?

Fixed. Just because you celebrate christmas doesn't mean everyone else does. Open your eyes.

Christ was real, get over it. He may not have been the son of god, performed miracles, or anything like that, but he was a person that did exist.

Aren't the "War on Christmas" guys the same also the "free market" guys? Yet when the companies freely choose what advertising technique is in their best interest, they get up in arms. Deal with it, bitches.

Even the GOP is at war with Christmas.

It is not photoshopped; the only modification was taking it down to 256 colors to save bandwidth.

Except we don't celebrate the death and resurrection of Socrates.

Christmas is a christian celebration that involves praying and going to church. "Holidays" is about selling stuff, overexposure to certain music, overspending, advertising, getting time off from work and school, decorating, lights, wearing certain colors or clothing, the ritual of going to the mall, giving token notice to "other" cultures especially if they happen to have some kind of celebration at the same time, wrapping presents, arguing about which family to "spend" the time with, and so on.

Happy Holidays is fine with me.

Also, all his ideas stand independently of the actual man, regardless of whether he ever physically existed or was entirely made up by Plato. The same might be said of some of Jesus' teachings, but definitely not for the religion that rose up around his legend.
